*In the mail that day was an envelope, with a familiar return address. Along with a large amount of money, there was letter. The handwriting was shaky, and the ink smudged in places, as if stained with tears.
Monsieur Enjolras, I debated with myself as to whether I should write you this at all, and I almost didn't. But, I feel that you have the right to know why I'm returning your money. I don't have need of it anymore. It was always for the child- that's why I accepted it in the first place. I thank you for your, generosity but, it's no longer necessary. The child died before birth, a few days ago. Please, there is no need for you to do anything- And don't feel guilty. And don't pity me. Good luck with your family and your wife. Regards, Rebecca Renn ____*

**LATER**
*Adrienne arrived in a carriage and climbed out with a gravity written on her innocent, round face that was strange in someone so small. Her relatives (cousins of her father's) welcomed her eagerly, and she quickly made friends with her second-cousin Madeline (called Maddie).*
*One day, when Maddie was at dancing lessons (Adi was too little to take them and Maddie was somewhat over a year older than she was), Adi roamed the grounds. She liked to imagine that there were fairies in this particular grove of trees, hidden deep in the forests on the property. Sunlight dappled the grassy ground, and Adi sat on the ground and waited patiently for something to happen.*
*To her great surprise, a pale boy with dark curls and eyes which matched hers walked out from behind a tree.*
"Nicki!" *She cried joyously, leaping up to go and embrace him. When she passed through him, she frowned, but Nicki smiled a little.*
"Hi Adi."
"Why can't I hug you?" *She asked, pouting.*
*Nicki shrugged.* "I think I'm a ghost."
"A ghost? Really? AWESOME." *Said Adi enthusiastically.*
*So tightly bound they'd been when living that Nicki's spirit hadn't yet departed this world. Sometimes, in quiet places like this, they could meet again and talk and play. She didn't know how long they were there playing, but it had to be a few hours before Maddie came looking for her.*
"Adi, where've you been?"
"Playing with Nicki." *Adi said simply, gesturing to her brother, who was smiling. He had dimples in either cheek and smiled somewhat lopsidedly.*
*Maddie looked at Adi strangely.* "Adi, there's nobody there."
*Adi frowned.* "Is too. Nicki's there, he's standing just next to me!"
*Maddie bit her lip.* "I know you got a active imagination but..."
*Adi glared.* "It wasn't my imagination! He's standing right..."
*Nicki, always the quiet, calming twin, laid a hand as best he could in Adi's. It only made her hand feel chilly, but she knew it was her brother nonetheless. There was a bond between them deeper than blood.* "Adi, she can't see me. Only you can."
*Adi looked crestfallen, but hung her shoulders and looked at Maddie.* "Yeah, you're right. I guess I was just pretending."

*With that, Nicki faded from even Adrienne's view.*
"Come back tomorrow." *He told her, before disappearing completely.*

**LATER**
*But Adi never went back to Paris. She was essentially raised as one of her cousins, visiting her father when appropriate. He had someone new to chase after. So Adi grew taller and stronger with her twin sort of by her side. The only interruption happened when she was six, and started showing... signs.*
*Signs she hid from everyone but Nicki. And on her eleventh birthday, she got a letter written in hard-to-read calligraphy and was on her way back to Paris.*
