A corner of Hans's mouth turned up in a smirk.
"Well, that's where I think I can prove you wrong. I can't die, you see.
"And who says you're not beautiful now?"

A bitter smile played in the corner of her mouth.
"That's what they all say. Then I get the stupid surprised look from their eyes, before they turn into stone, or get bit by the snakes and die from the poison."
She turned away when she heard him call her beautiful. Her voice was bitter.
"You have never seen me in my dark cave in Greece, hidden from the public eye, too ugly to be shown. After Poseidon raped me in Athene's temple he went free. I was the one to carry the blame. I was the one who got punished by the righteous goddess. I was the one that got turned into the gorgon with hair of live snakes, and with eyes that can turn you into stone."

"Well, why don't you just try turning me into stone? It'll certainly be a difficult feat."
Hans lightly bounced on the balls of his feet, daring her.

Medusa smirked.
"You won't be so lighthearted when you are turned into stone. What kind of stone is your favorite one? I always try to please my victims...."

"I don't mind. Surprise me."
Hans made a grand, sweeping gesture with his arms and bowed low.
"To the death."

Medusa smirked.
"Personally, I always fancied marble. Perfect for tombstones."
She lifted her head and looked at him. Her eyes were light green, and glowed with a strange light.

For some seconds, Hans was frightened that his power wouldn't take hold, or something of the sort. But gazing down at his body, he was relieved to discover that nothing occurred.
He grinned and waggled his eyebrows.

Medusa raised an eyebrow when nothing happened. She didn't know if she was glad or disappointed.
"Hm, I have to admit you last longer than the others. You are definitely not a normal human. But WHAT are you?"

Hans flinched slightly.
"What am I? I'm a mutant, to put it bluntly."

Medusa looked confused up at him. She had never heard the word mutant before.
"What is a mutant? And how did you become one?"

"I'm... different," he stated, looking down at the floor.
"I was exposed to a radioactive substance at my father's laboratory when I was young."

Medusa looked at him. If she knew anything at all, it was how it felt to be different. She lowered her gaze.
"I'm sorry."
She said, surprising even herself. Compassion was just a word for her. At least until now.

"Thank you," he said quietly.
"So, I don't suppose you have other powers other than turning people into stone?"

Medusa rolled her eyes.
"Wouldn't that be enough? Or the snakes biting people and poisoning them? But nooooo. That goddess had to mess with my blood as well. The blood on my left side is poisoned and can kill, the blood on my right side can heal. Or was it the other way around? Don't remember anymore."

"I see."
Hans chuckled at her biting sarcasm.
"But, you have to admit, is it not fascinating to wield such power and strength?"
