*A rather cheeky smile appeared on Stark's face*
"Sure you mean me by that?"

*Nothing showed outwardly but Lois could've sworn she felt the color drain from her face. She cleared her throat lightly before speaking.*
"Who else? Wayne?" *she said incredulously. She made it sound as if it were the clearest thing on Earth that she wouldn't ever mean Wayne.*

"I hope so. I don't think anybody could mistake me for the clean-cut boyscout type. Bruce, on the other hand..."
*He shrugged*
"He's kind of vanilla. Which means he's got to have some deep, dark secret, right?"

"Seems like you've got him all figured out," *she said, raising her brow.*
*Lois turned thoughtful.*
"He does seem vanilla but I'm not sure about the deep dark stuff. He's hiding behind something, though. Then again, everyone is."

"That's just how he seems to me. Probably why he doesn't like me much, also."
*The fact that Bruce didn't like him was a source of amusement, and it showed*
"Hiding. Now you got me curious."

"Oh, competition. I'll be keeping an eye out for that."
*Lois angled her head slightly. She was very intrigued.*
"Really? Well, just remember what it did to the cat," *she warned jokingly.*

"Ha! I doubt Bruce would appreciate any snooping on my part. Probably wouldn't mind it from you, though."

"Mind wh--?"
You're REALLY letting your colors show, Lois. Good job, idiot!
*Lois laughed and shook her head.*
"We're... not like that. He's not interested and neither am I," *she said casually. Perhaps a bit too casual.*

*There was a knowing look on his face, though it quickly disappeared*
"Of couse not. You've already got a boyfriend, right?"

*Lois looked confused for a brief moment then looked hurt. She could never catch herself on time when it came to him.*
"How does everyone know?" *she said under her breath as she looked away.*

"Know what?"
*Okay, so maybe he didn't keep tabs on everything, but last he'd heard Metropolis' most famous reporter wasn't single anymore*

*Lois looked up and glared at him before turning and walking a few steps away from him. Quite a bit of time passed before she spoke.*
"He just took off without saying why or without saying goodbye," *she said shortly, with her back still to Stark.*

Well, damn.
*That hadn't been what he'd expected*
"Sorry, hon. I had no idea. Didn't mean to bring up something like that."

*Lois turned around suddenly and was facing him.*
"When I say 'he took off', I don't mean... I mean he's gone. Literally, out-of-this-world gone. Either that or dead and if he's dead--"
*She broke off and it wasn't because of tears or that lump that forms in your throat when you become overly emotional. It was as if a train had derailed in her brain and she stopped simply because she couldn't form the words. What if he were dead? What would happen after that? What would she do if that were true?*
*A moment was all that was needed for her to regain her composure.*
"I'm just worried."

*He kept his distance--emotional sorts of scenes he tried to stay away from. Besides, it wasn't any of his business*
"You're allowed to be worried. And it'll probably turn out the way it usually does--he reappears, and you get to be mad at him for disappearing."
