*Lark frowned briefly. It was so strange that everyone one knew. She hadn't heard her real name so much since...when she was back home. She managed to recapture her smile and offered a hand to the redhead.*
"Nice to make your acquaintance."

*Jake cleared his throat. Too many girls in there.*
"I'd better go round up Jamie n' Kip," *he said, ducking out into the back yard to holler for his brothers.*

*Lark felt suddenly exposed, alone with the other two, but then her performance instinct kicked in. She smiled warmly.*
"So...how'd you two come to meet each other?"
*She glanced at Lizzie.*
"Jake never told me that you liked opera."

*It was Lizzie's turn to look a bit nervous.*
"Aw, well...I kinda just found that I liked it, but..."
*How could she explain it?*

Alex had taken Lark's hand, narrowly avoiding bringing it to her lips, and performed all the niceties.
Now she stepped in smoothly.
"It's an acquired taste," Alex said dryly. "I'm afraid I insisted that Lizzie attend a rehearsal, and now she just can't get enough."

*Lark's smile brightened.*
"Well that's right nice of you." *Then something hit her.*
"So...you didn't meet there? Just..."
*She tried to remember if Lizzie was working, the answer eluding her.*
"Out and about?"

Alex grinned.
"More or less. I caught Lizzie wading in the Seine, and knew she wasn't from around here."

*Lizzie blushed and gave Alex a small playful shrug. She didn't need Jake hearing about that. But...at least it didn't require the explanation that she'd thought her a man.*

*Lark laughed softly, leaning closer.*
"Don't fret. I won't go spreading it to Jake, if that's the issue." *She arched a mischievous brow.*
"I'm starting to think the boy hates the water. Couldn't get him in the crick myself."

Visions of the three of them skinny-dipping swam before Alex's eyes, and she pushed them away for later perusal. She shot an apologetic glance at Lizzie, realizing they should have confirmed their story before anyone had come home. Too late now. And as it was, with Alex's hangover it was quite enough for her to be civil, she thought. Let alone clever.

"Thanks." *Lizzie answered, much appreciative and starting to really like the new girl. She turned to busy herself with dinner.*
"Really should get this on the table."

*Lark nodded quickly.*
"Of course. I'm sorry. Is there anything I can help with?" *She offered.*

"Nah. Don't you worry none." *Lizzie answered with a smile, putting the serving dishes on the table. She glanced to Alex with a good-natured smile.*
"You neither."

Alex had been about to ask, but it wasn't as if she knew the first thing about serving dinner, so it was probably just as well.
"Thank you for cooking, Lizzie," she said. "It smells wonderful."

*Lizzie gave a proud grin.*
"Glad 'ya think so. Wanted to make something right special." *She glanced to Lark that blushed and lowered her head in respectful appreciation.*
