((Haha! Yes, yes indeed. XD))
Crap.
*Determined to not be awkward, Lois stopped and smiled.*
"Hey. It's just five rungs," *she said, looking down.*

(( )) "Maybe I could take a few of those for you?" He was standing near the ladder, but not too near.

That would mean that I'd have to get close to you and that would mean that I'd probably end up blushing like some tweenager. God, Lois, you are such a loser.
*Lois had resumed trying to reach for that darn Dickens novel.*
"I'm good. Thanks," *she said, straining as her fingers still came just a tad bit short of fully grasping the novel.*

She was going to lose her balance.
"Lois, I think--"
And the ladder slid a bit to the right.

"Almost. Got it--"
*She leaned a bit too far and the books in her arms spilled over. The angle allowed her to grab the book but then she realized that the ladder was moving. Screaming, she threw her arms around the ladder and held on for dear life.*

It almost all came tumbling down on top of him, and he quickly ducked aside to catch Lois in his arms as the books went crashing to the floor in a papery cascade.
He stood there for a moment, holding her, a bit stunned at how fast that had all gone.
"Are you all right?" He finally said, his voice a weird whisper.

*She was holding on to Bruce now with a bit more zeal than needed.*
"Yeah," *she said sheepishly.* "I think so, at least."
*With her arms around his neck, she looked at him and smiled, not remotely thinking about hopping off.*
"Thank God for your reaction time..."

Anyone coming in at that moment might have mistaken the scene for a romantic one, with the way they were standing.
"Yes. Sports, you know." His words were a bit vauge, as though he weren't really paying attention to the conversation.
He was, in fact, staring into her eyes.

*She moved her eyes down for a moment to catch a glimpse of all the books... but when she turned her attention back to Bruce, her smile slowly faded as she realized what he was doing. Instead of getting awkward, she found herself doing the exact same thing.*
"...You should've gone for the books. They're probably worth more," *she quipped.*

"I'll have to disagree with you on that."
He still hadn't let go of her.

*A quite a bit of time passed before Lois found herself moving closer to him. Slowly, she started closing the small gap between them and their lips.*

Bruce moved at the same time, until at last their locked in a rather passionate embrace.

*The kiss quickly escalated into something a tad bit more than the generic 'passionate'. Their lips, the quick, desperate breaths between kisses, their hands... Completely oblivious to everything, the only object of her attention was him.*

It would be so wonderful to just...forget everything, and lose himself in the moment. To think of only Lois, and how warm and wonderful she felt in his arms, how tempting.
But a nagging little voice in the back of his mind wouldn't let it go. He started to slow, reluctant to break contact.

*Sensing the change, she opened her eyes. She knew immediately to stop and pull back.*
"That was... I'm such an idiot..." *she said, still breathless.*
