*A wagon stopped up in front of the homeless shelter. It was loaded with all kinds of food, medicine, clothes, shoes, schoolbooks and toys. The workmen started carrying everything into John's shelter for the homeless, and one of them placed a note on the table. The note read:*
Good Monsieur, who comes from God in heaven.
Thank you for the help and comfort you brought into my life yesterday during our conversation. You have no idea what your words and the hope you gave me, mean to me in my hour of darkness.
As you can see, I have kept my promise, and send you a little token of my gratitude for the light you have brought into my life. While I am writing this, I feel another attack from my personal devil is close, and I am trembling. But the thought of what you do for the homeless is keeping me strong. You have been inspiring to me, good Monsieur, and I am grateful to you.
If you ever need my help, please let me know.
Your friend,
Duchess María Sheila de Lefévre, Chateau Noir, Paris.

John stared at the note in wonderment.
Had he really done all that?
He blessed god and directed the workmen to set the things in the living space so that he could set everything up.

*A little later Duchess María Sheila de Lefévre showed up in person to see if her gifts had arrived. She remained standing in the doorway, a bit uncertain if she could enter the room.*

"Milady Lefévre" John heard her come in and stood up from behind a wall of boxes "so good to see you again" he said pushing through a crack he had made "Mademoiselle this is so much, I have no idea how I am ever going to repay you" he took her hand and kissed it respectfully.

Oh God for shame, I do not even know your name.....
*María smiled when she noticed the man she had met appearing in the room. She blushed when he kissed her hand, still shy about these things, like all girls on her age.*
"Please, call me María."
*She looked around in the room, as to check if everything she had sent was there. Then she turned to John, with a smile.*
"You have already repayed me, good Monsieur. Nobody has ever treated me so kindly as you have after hearing about my... problems. You probably saved my soul, do you know that? And for that I will offer you my eternal friendship."

He stared at her in wonderment "I- I do not know that I have saved your soul my dear, I- I have not yet even heard from Notre Dame since I sent the letter."

*Duchess María smiled warmly up to him.*
"Oh, but you have. That night when I entered the shelter, I was on verge of a total breakdown, due to all the stress and hardships I've been through. If you hadn't been so friendly and gentle as you were, I very much doubt that I would have been alive today."

He didn't understand "What do you mean?"

((Nice avvie))
*Maria sighed deeply.*
"Before I came here I was really depressed. I have money, power and a title, but no one to share it with, except Astaroth and the ghosts haunting my castle. And believe me: Astaroth knows how to make my life a living hell."
*She looked down at her hands.*
"The night I walked over the bridge over the river Seine, I did so because I wanted to end my life."

((I just finished making it, thanks))
He looked shocked for a moment then a wave of compassion fell upon his face "Milday, if I had known-" he exhaled "well than, you're welcome."

((It's great, )) *María looked down at her hands, tears burning in her eyes, but she didn't want to shed them.* "Thank you for everything. I really am greatful. It will take me a lifetime to repay you for all you have done for me. But at least this is a start."

He smiled and lifted her head "You mustn't cry do you hear, you must be strong" he looked at her deeply in the eyes "because there are only three things that can destroy evil, hope, love and strength."

*Duchess María looked sadly into his eyes.*
"That leaves me to destruction then."
*She replied quietly.*
"Because I've got neither of those."

"But you do" he said with a reassuring smile "you've got love enough to donate all these things to the people I help, because there is hope for them and you have had strength enough to hold on this long, you see?"

*María looked up at him with tears in her eyes.*
"You think so? Sometimes I feel like the weakest creature on the earth. Especially when Astaroth possesses me. You have no ideas what he has put me through."
