"I am not certain he would appreciate that," Carlos said. Julian's expression made him feel anything but reassured. "What is there to decide? If he might be made to look like a man... it should be done. If not..." It hardly matters "... then anything will do. He can hardly wear his hat and scarf indefinitely."

*Any smile that might have remained dropped from Julian's face.*
"You truly care for him then, don't you?" *His voice was cold.*
"Whatever will do as long as you can just have it done?" *He set his jaw.*
"Then I will do this for him."
Not for you.
"I will be able to fashion something within a day or so. In the meantime, perhaps you will be able to just avoid him."
*He arched his brow.*
"Or keep the flames low."

"I do care for him," Carlos said, with an intensity that surprised him. This man got his back up. "You don't know anything about me, or the circumstances, however you know Erik. So I'll please you to keep your snide remarks to yourself."
He wondered what Julian would think if he actually saw Destler. It was a wonder Carlos hadn't left already. He calmed himself, recalling that he wanted something from this man.
"What payment can I offer?"

*Julian was a bit fascinated by this man's eagerness to squirm. If he'd submit, this would go easier. Though he was starting to doubt that he'd enjoy it so much.*
"I suppose that we can deffer that topic until I produce something. Then you can tell me what it's worth. Deal?"
*The smile returned to his lips.*

Carlos raised an eyebrow. The offer was open-ended, which he knew from negotiating contracts was not a good starting point. But he had Erik to think about this for him, and it seemed reasonable to agree and then discuss this with someone who had dealt with the man before.
"Deal," he said. "I do appreciate it. For Erik's sake."

*Julian lashes fell heavy, obscuring his eyes.*
"It is my...pleasure to do what I can."

"Indeed," Carlos said, his voice rumbling. He was reminded again that this odd creature was pretty, in his own way, which only made him that much more disturbing. "When shall I call on you again?"

*Julian was silent and perfectly still for a moment. One could not even seen his breath. Then he shifted back into life again.*
"Two days. Give me two days."

Carlos shuddered. Now that was uncanny. He would have to ask Destler what this person was.
He'd rather given up assuming that was a stupid question.
"Two days," he echoed. "Very well. I will return here."

*Julian just stared at him. The business was concluded then, wasn't it? He arched his brow.*
"Was there...anything else?"

Carlos started.
"Er, no," he said. Instinctively, he held out his hand. "Good bye, then."

*Julian glanced to the man's hand with a slight sneer of distaste. But he managed a smile and a nod in his direction.*
"I will see you then."
*With that, Julian seemed to be engulfed by darkness, as was gone.*

Carlos decided that he really did not like Julian.
But that was neither here nor there; Erik had wished to enlist the man's help, and he had. Now he would fulfill the other half of his mission. He only hoped that he could control himself for long enough to do the shopping.
And that he remembered how to do it.

**THE SEQUEL**
Carlos stood at the edge of the lake two days later, apprehensive of the meeting yet anxious to receive whatever Julian had created. He hoped Erik's faith in the man was justified.
The last two days had been tense, to say the least.
He knew Erik was being careful around him. And he knew that the man was in a great deal of pain, much of it assuredly inflicted by himself and his inability to say anything that might ease Destler's fears. But... despite his memories of the cat's utter indifference to Erik's corpse-like appearance, Carlos' reaction was under control but not at all positive. He lamented it, but it was a fact. He knew quite well the value of his own appearance, and that his voice alone would not have attracted his maestro. To his dressing room, perhaps, but not his bed.
It was how the world worked.
He wondered if he should call out, or if Julian would recall their appointment.

*There was a warm breath on the back of the man's neck as Julian's voice seethed from the shadows behind him.*
"I am glad to see you return, sir."
