*It was a last-minute thing, but Micaela figured everyone should at least enjoy their meals without smelling smoke. There had been a lunch planned all along, but now the dining room stank with the smell and the whole house would have to be checked for smoke damage.*
*So she'd had the staff slip a note under everyone's door, informing them that lunch would be served on the beach closest to the Happy Valley. A small, easy-to-decipher map was included.*
*On the beach itself, one of the tents from the wedding celebration had been moved to cover tables of food, and old, unused sheets were in a neat pile, ready to be spread on the sand. Everyone had to be tired, as the fire had happened at dawn, not long after the reception had ended, but she figured they'd be up by one. It was now twelve-thirty and she waited to see if there would be anyone.*

The first person to arrive was strangely, James, Megan-less.
He looked happy, but grave "Good afternoon" he bowed to Micaela and tried to smile.

*She smiled a little. She looked tired, as well she should.*
"Afternoon."
*The waves crashed on the rocks behind her, and the wind picked up a little, just enough to be cheery.*

"I would ask how you were, but I imagine that is still quite the sore subject" he touched Micaela on the shoulder.

"No, thank you for asking. I hate it when people avoid the subject, and anyway it could be far worse."
*Only one person had died, and only one had been seriously injured, and she hadn't been aware of the presence of either of them in her house in the first place. And there was the fact that only the West wing burned--that was almost pleasing in that it had been Rebecca's domain.*

"Than I take back my statement" he smiled and sitting down close to her "what shall you do with that part of the house?"

*She shrugged.*
"Demolish what's left and try to get some plants to grow, I suppose. We never really went in that part of the house, and it was an addition from the 18th century."

"Aha" he nodded "well the ash will certainly make good fertilizer."
