*Sarah looked a bit flustered.*
"Well...how should I know?" *She pouted, frustrated by her own inadequacy.*
"I just thought that trying might be better than giving up. Besides, I suppose I could always feed off you again if I had to..." *She got lost in the thought.*

Norman squeezed her hand weakly.
"Thank you," he said. "You have my permission. I... I don't want to kill anyone. But I'm afraid this will bring you up against Maria. And she has no pity in her."

*Sarah's brow lowered, concerned.*
"Well...hmm...."
*She brightened in question.*
"Why don't we run off together?" *She clarified, realizing how it sounded.* "Just away for a while until you can get more control. Maybe you just need to be away from her."

Her suggestion filled him with a sudden, unexpected hope.
"Yes... if she cannot influence him, cannot draw me into..."
He looked up at Sarah.
"I love her," he said quietly. "I mean, I love what she was--what she still has locked inside her."
His face fell.
"But it's impossible. I'm so weak; how will I run if I can't eat enough to have the strength without running back to her?"

*Sarah focused hard, trying to think.*
"Well...I could call a carriage, take you somewhere else. I should be strong enough to help you along. I could..."
*She blushed slightly.*
"...chain you. If you think that you'd be likely to run. Just to help with the withdrawal like Angel when he came back from Hell."

Norman smiled, his eyes fever bright.
"You would do that? For me?"

*Sarah looked confused by his surprise.*
"Of course I would. It's the least I can do for someone in need."
*She smiled.*

"Th-then let's do it, then," he said, his stutter re-emerging in his nervous excitement. It was a way out, the only one his hazy brain could reach for right now.

*Sarah grinned and nodded.*
"All right. You just wait here and I'll summon the cab."
*She started for the door hurriedly and disappeared into the hall.*

Norman fell back with relief onto the bed, content to wait, to be cared for. He knew that was symptomatic of something, his psychiatrist had told him so, but he couldn't at this moment care. He was himself--a weaker, much more pathetic version of himself than he'd ever been, but even so.
He hated what he'd become. Both of him. But he hated one of him more.

*Sarah rushed back to the room as soon as she could manage.*
"Come along..." She hurried to his side and helped his arm up over her shoulder to aid in him standing.*
"The cab is here, let's get you outside."

It was fortunate Sarah was a vampire, Norman thought, and possessed of more than normal strength. Because he was floppy and useless, barely able to put one foot before the other. At least the last time he'd been without control over these violent episodes, his lucid moments had allowed him some freedom of movement. He hadn't really traded up at all.
He hated to imagine what Maria would think, when she found him gone.

*Sarah managed to pull them both up into the coach and wave the driver on. She wasn't sure where they were going yet, but she'd know when they got there.*
