*It was stupid. It was cliche. But here he was, throwing pebbles at her window.*
*It wasn't as if he was here to make love to her with words or music or seduce her into running away and eloping with it. Far from it. He had some very important things to tell her and this appeared to be the only way to get in contact with her without the man she called her husband knowing.*

*Johanna smiled to see him, put opened the window fearfully*
"Raoul, why have you come? I told you, this can't-"
*She stiffened*
"What was that noise? It's the gate, I know it-"
Oh dear lord, don't let me start this again.
"...nevermind."

"You don't have a g..." *He shook it off.* "I've something of the utmost importance to tell you." *He said in a low voice.* "Now would you please let me up?"

*She hesitated for a moment, then ran down to open the door, looking as if she was afraid of being caught any moment*

*He resisted the urge to bundle her into his carriage and run off.*
"Some information regarding your husband has recently come to my attention. Disturbing information." *He said, as he stepped in.*

"What do you mean? Have you been spying on him? Why on earth would you do that?"

"I haven't spied on anyone!" *He defended in huhed tones.* "I made discreet inquiries, and before you go getting offended, any man of honor and decency would have done the same, given the circumstances."
*Circumstances being that the man had hurt her. And that hadn't sat well with Raoul, not at all.*

*She sighed*
"Alright, what is it?"

"Well would you like me to start with the carnal end or the legal end?" *He said dryly.*

*Johanna turned away*
"What are you talking about?"

"He was recently involved in the Gedauvan killings; evidently he has some kind of lion-thing at his disposal, firstly. There was something to do with a treasonous cult and how the beast was punishing the Kind of France... he's killed more men than I can guess, either by his own hand or using the creature."
*He frowned deeply.*
"He raped a woman. One, in particular, anyway; I can't be sure of his past before this particular incident. The woman was his sister, Marianne, who was nearly killed in the process."

That animal he showed me...
"You've been lied to", *she whispered faintly.* "It's not true...he's a libertine, but he wouldn't..."

"He would, and he has."
*He reached out his hand but hesitated.*
"I know you don't want to believe it, Johanna, but for your own sake you've got to."

*She felt sick. The worst part was the awful knowledge that she'd known all along what he was capable of- he'd even admitted to her that if she hadn't consented to him he'd have raped her- but had chosen to ignore it. She had no one to blame but herself.*
"Oh god..."

*Suddenly he felt horrible.*
"My God, Johanna, I shouldn't have come here like this, I shouldn't have... I don't know what I was..."
*All he'd done was upset her.*
