*Malefica sat on her horse. In front of her, she had the baby carrier, containing Gawain. She had also brought with her everything they needed for a day out in the sun.
It was a lovely day. The sun was shining from a clear, blue sky, and the horse was galopping over the green meadows.*

*Malefica noticed her baby's grunts, and slowed down the horse, before giving her son a kiss.*
"There, sweetie. Isn't this much better? We have all the day together, just you and I."
*Malefica's mood was bright by the thought of a whole day with her beloved son.*

*Malefica quickly dried dismounted the horse, worried that the movements of the horse had made her son ill. She took a rag and gently wiped away the spit. First from him, then from herself. Luckily, the boat was not far away. Malefica left the horse with some servants and went onboard the sailing boat with Gawain.*

*Malefica understood that this was something new to her baby. She cradled him protectively in her arms and kissed him.*
"Don't be afraid, sweetie. Momma is here. Are you hungry?"
*She sat down in the sailing boat, offering him her chest, trying to give him something familiar to do in these new surroundings.*

*Malefica lifted her son up in her arms and cradled him gently.*
"What is wrong, darling? Are you not hungry today? Do you want to look at the sails of the sailboats instead?"
*She pointed at the sails, showing how they moved when the wind was blowing. The Captain of the ship sailed the boat out on the little lake.*

*Malefica looked at her baby, worried about him. Since he couldn't speak, she didn't know why he was squirming as much as he did. Once more she cradled him in her arms, trying to calm him down.*
"Awww, Gawain. I wish I knew what you are thinking right now. If you are ill, or if there is something wrong.*
*She felt on his tiny forehead, to see if he had a fever.*

*At last the boat anchored up where Malefica had decided to arrange the picnic. It was a cozy little bay with a white sandy beach and clear, green water, not too deep. Malefica went of the boat, carrying her child.
She gently placed him in the sand, and gave him a bucket and a tiny shovel, so he could play in the sand.*
"Look here, Gawain. Momma is going to build you a sand castle!"
