*Commissario Guido Brunetti from the police in Venice had been sent on a special mission in Paris: A drug bust at Madame Dahlia's. Because French policemen couldn't resist the charming hookers or something.
Armed with his gun, he kicked the door open and yelled:*
"FREEZE! POLICE!!!"

*Half naked girls squealed and ran to various corners and doorways. In all the confusion, no one stopped to notice a seven-foot tall cloaked figure manifesting in a pillar of black ooze and stepping silently behind the man.*
"Guido..." *He whispered in a low rattle.*

((Ooooh. Stylish.))
*Commissario Brunetti froze when he heard the low rattled whisper. His heart started beating faster.*
"Who are you?"

*Death frowned for a moment, tilting his head.*
"Aw, come on. Who do you think?" *The voice was less eerie. Actually, it was kinda mundane.*
*He gestured at the visage, even if Guido wasn't looking at the time.*

*Guido felt his sweat pearl on his forehead, and his body tensed. He thought about his wife Paola and their two children, who he never would see again.*
Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum, benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus. Sancta Maria mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen
(Hail Mary, full of grace, our Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and in the hour of our death. Amen.)

"Calm down, don't hyperventilate." *Death tried to soothe. Though compassion was one of those things he'd always kind of suffered with, not being able to get people to really open up to him and all. Maybe it was the skull.*
"Maybe you should sit down, you don't look at all well."

*Guido tried to calm down. He really did. But meeting Death face to back in a Drug Bust for the first time, didn't make things easy for him. He swallowed, and noticed that the hand that was holding his gun was trembling.*
"I - I don't feel well either. This has been a really bad day."
*He sat down on a chair, after checking that it was empty.*

"There. Isn't that better?"
*He handed the man a glass of wine from a nearby table.*

*Guido looked at the bony hands that handed him the glass.*
"Eh... Thank you."
*He sniffed suspiciously at the wine in the glass, before taking a careful sip.*

"It's not going to be like that." *Death said, rather matter-of-factly, glancing to the glass.*
"I'm not normally the one that does the taking. Just collect the souls and get 'em where they're going."
*He smiled genially.*

"Oh." *Guido relaxed a bit, and drank some more of the wine.*
"So, have you any plans for where I am going?"
Not the purgatory, not the purgatory, not the purgatory.....

"Plans? Ah, hell no. That's not my thing."
*He shrugged.*
"Why? You worried about where you'll end up?"

"So, I take it you are the spontaneous kind of guy?"
*Guido smiled, a bit nervous.*
"Yes, I admit I feel a bit nervous about where I'll end up. Aren't all humans?"

"Spontaneous?" *Huh, no one had ever really called him that before. He shrugged, causing a hollow rattle as his bones rubbed together.*
"Some more than others. Lots are pretty sure before we get there. But no, I'm not that spontaneous."
*In one bony hand, he lifted a small black book.*
"Got a List. Don't write it though." *He smiled.* "Just make the deliveries."

*Guido tried not to shudder as he heard the hollow rattle when Death shrugged. Even if this was an unfamiliar situation for him, he had been raised to be polite.*
"Ehh... if you don't mind me asking: Who is it that normally does the taking, as you call it? Or decides who is on that list?"
*If it hadn't been for the wine, he would never dare to ask.*
