*Somewhere between meeting Christian and getting him a horse, she had time to slip down to the Cellars. She stopped at the threshold to Erik's Lair. It had been far creepier coming down here at normal speed, and she only now realized that it was ridiculously cold.*
*She set a basket down, containing a thick, soft, hand-knitted blanket, a large plate of fudge, and a signed copy of Hugo's Les Miserables.*
*And of course there was a note. On the front, it read:*
For Erik, Megan, and Pina
*On the inside:*
Dear Erik, Megan, and Pina,
I admit that I definitely overstepped my boundaries. I'm sorry for it, too. I realize that I've been a bit... nosy and defensive and altogether wierd, and though it sounds like a cop-out, I honestly couldn't help it. I've since been getting help, and I'm definitely not going to be bugging you guys anymore. For Megan, I made some more fudge (with extra chocolate), I knitted the blanket for Pina (it's kind of freezing down here) , and a signed copy of Hugo's Les Miserables. It's a favorite of mine, and though I'm sure you've read it, Erik, I included it nonetheless.
Your new pupil seems to be a very nice person. I met him earlier today. He speaks very well of you.

*Erik munched on Megan's fudge as he read the note. No one had ever seen fit to apologize to him before, which was strange enough in itself. But gifts? Surely something had to be wrong. Surely--
And there it was, at the bottom:
Your new pupil seems to be a very nice person. I met him earlier today. He speaks very well of you.
Anger flared inside him. This note was the guilty result of that demon child consorting with his Christian! Something would have to be done.*
