*A vein in Erik's head throbbed painfully against a nerve. He thought he might faint.
He also thought he was getting rather... fat.*
"No. Out of the question. If I believed you, I'd never let it happen."
*He stared at her, as if to say, So what would you do about it?*

"It's not your decision," she said finally.

"It is if you live in my house, missy!"
"You are quite determined? Gouge-out-Erik's-eyeball determined?"

"It may be your baby, but it's mine too... and I can't bring myself to get rid of it. I think I'll like being a mother, really... I love babies... I'm the eldest of four, so I'm used to taking care of younger children."

"I hate babies," *Erik said, before he could stop himself. It was really only a theory, and he'd never tested it. But he was pretty sure he hated all children on the general principle that they often grew up to become adults. Unless he could secretly rid her of this troublesome little problem, and given what he knew of her that would be difficult, he had two choices:
1) Give her money and command that she leave, never contacting him again nor telling the child who its father was; or 2) Letting her stay in the interest of keeping watch over the already-doomed-anyway child.
But first...*
"Do we have any chocolate?"

"What? How should I know? You never let me out to do the shopping..."

"You cook, don't you? Nevermind, it's not important."
*He didn't understand the sudden craving. Also--pickles.*
"Erik is not happy about this," *he said, back on track.* "The thing... that is. Not the chocolate. I mean, both, but I'm talking about the ba--thing right now." *His eye twitched every time he got to the "b" word. Suddenly he pointed at her.*
"Is there any way to prove it's mine?"

"Well, the fact that you're the only partner I've ever had kind of narrows things down..."

"What if Erik doesn't believe you?"

She looked around, almost as if worried someone else were listening, and whispered, "Even I'm aware that I probably didn't seem very... erm... experienced."

*Erik looked blankly at her.*
"Are you daft, woman? How would I know?"

"Well, let's be honest here. Ever since I made you pretty, you've started sleeping with just about anything with an orifice you can put it in."
((Oh, snap!))

((Oh, I know. I don't know why my Erik is so freakin' inept.))
"Not true!" *he snapped.* "That one time, I let the da--Never mind, that's not relevant!"
*He folded his arms over his chest. He supposed he had to believe her. Come to think of it, that was how women got pregnant, wasn't it?*
"But if I turn you out, even if I give you money, you'll likely end up a whore and die and your... uh... child will grow up wrong and then end up a whore and die. So I suppose... Erik had better let you stay."
*He collapsed back into his chair, defeated and suddenly weak. He wondered if it was a side effect of his new body--it seemed to respond slightly differently than his old one--or shock at Megan's announcement. He hated everyone.*

Megan did likewise, with her hand on her belly.
"I'm sorry," she said finally. "That was really rude of me. It's just... I dunno, I'd really hoped you'd end up with Christine. Or with me."
She glanced down at her abdomen in a thoughtful sort of way, although she certainly wasn't showing yet.
"At least I'll always have a little reminder of that night..."
