"Of course," *Erik said.* "She could hardly bathe in chains. And she smelled something awful."

"Who would do such a reprehensible thing? That's just...disgusting."
*He stood up*
"I hope you aren't going to force her to stay here."

*Erik sensed that he was losing Christian's attention. He had to do something.*
"Erik hadn't thought about it," *he said.* "She does not seem to have anywhere to go, however."

"Nowhere to go...where did she come from in the first place?"

"Erik has not been able to determine that. She is oddly reticent on that topic. Nor will she give a name."
*He sighed.*
"Sometimes the ways of humanity confuse Erik."

"From a home far away, in a strange land among strange people. She won't tell us anything, not for a long time. She'd have to trust that no one would harm her first." He said matter-of-factly.
"And trust can take a long time to build."

*Erik blinked at him.*
"Is that something you think Erik should try?"

"I do, but realize, it will take a LONG time, if ever. Some people have had all their trust destroyed permanently. I just hope she isn't one of those."

*Erik regarded him quietly. He hadn't thought about that before. But Christian seemed to think it was important.*
"Very well," *he said.* "Erik will try to earn her trust, if you think it is a good idea."
*He turned to look for her, and did not see her in the immediate area. So he walked through his house... then outside, to the lake shore. He darted back in.*
"She is gone."

"Gone? There's only one way she could have..."
*The cellars. Filled with traps."
"Oh, god..."

*Erik frowned. He'd rather resent having to clean his traps again. At least, that's what he told himself.
It was getting harder not to care whom he killed. He sighed.*
"Erik shall have to look for her," *he said.*

"Please do? She couldn't have gone far, this place is a maze if you don't know your way."

*Erik nodded.*
"She cannot have gotten far."
*He kissed Christian thoroughly before departing.*

*He watched Erik leave before turning back to the sheet music before him. Well, if there was one thing anyone could say about the opera house, it was that there was never a dull moment*

*She came back from her freeing of the girl, somehow missing Erik along the way. Returning to the lair--she wanted to see what was different--she exited through a concealed door and suddenly found herself standing behind Christian. He was absorbed in some sheet music that he was studying so closely that the hadn't heard her. A smile appeared on her lips. He always had been rather diligent in his music*
"Christian..."
*A name, but in it, all that she felt in her heart for him*
