*Her eyes narrowed, still waiting for the rest of the story.*
"And what, prithee, is the motive that would sway me to aid yourself into the royal bloodline and bedchamber?"
*Her eyes softened mockingly.*
"The goodness of mine own heart?"

"Should I succeed in my aims, you would have your pick of the reward," *Richard pointed out.* "What motive moves thee?"

*She considered the question carefully. Surely the opportunities were vast and though she often doubted his reasons, he had never broken his word.*
"Would thou hast to know it now, or might I think on it?"
*Her strict demeanor shifted saccharine sweet for a moment.*
"For surely, thou knowst fickle is the way of women."

"Indeed I do," *Richard said with a wry smile.* "But methinks your ambition will win out, in the end. I will await your decision, my lady."

Think you know me so well, sir?
*Beatrice grew aloof, back to business.*
"What is it that you would need from me, should I aid you in this?"

"Merely what I requested: your aid, milady, in the art of wooing a difficult woman."

*Beatrice tightened her body strictly.*
"Your Grace, there are many was to woo a woman. Some more...costly than others."
*She nodded decisively.*
"And to truly help, I would need access to her that I doubt I have in my current station."

((This is going to throw us off the timeline somewhat, but hell. It sort of works. I'll do this elsewhere if you'd prefer, Brandi, but I don't see this going anywhere at this point.))
A nervous man in palace livery approached, and Richard excused himself to listen, a frown descending upon his face as the page gave him the news.
Marie gone. Kidnapped, out from under his very nose, most like, and the rebel vermin gaining support. Every day, more flocked to their cause. Richard returned to Beatrice, his face a veritable thundercloud.
"None has access now, my lady," he said darkly. "Her highness hath been taken. Those vile dogs have absconded with her like gypsies in the night." His mind whirled, half a dozen different plans formulating within his mind like competing tides. "They will not be suffered to win."

((It's cool.))
"Taken?" *Beatrice was truly thrown. The monarchy had guards and weapons and...taken? It seemed too odd. But...that was not the only thing. Her eyes narrowed.*
"Prithee, sire...how is it that those of her service come to tell you such directly?" *It was strange, that such a man should seek Richard out so.*

Richard gazed at her a moment, all pretense gone as he seemed to stand a little straighter, even. The game was up--the game with her, anyway, if not that which had started with a chance encounter and a devilish promise.
"Because, my lady," he began, his dark eyes almost merry. "I am the King of France."

*Now that was a strange plot that Beatrice had not seen on the horizon. For a long moment she just stared, then scoffed her way into a laugh.*
"Your Grace would have me by the foot." *She said with a smile.* "Why be it that you would say such things?"

Richard's smile looked somewhat fixed.
"Do you doubt my suitability, madame, or my honesty? Indeed, I fool you not."

*Surely he jested...he would not... Beatrice's smile faded and then the color in her face started to fade.*
"You?" *Her knees were a bit weak.*
"By...what means, my lord?" *She queried, her mind quite perplexed.*

"Why, by marriage to the queen, of course," he said easily. "Moreover, mine ancestors ruled here, once. It is as much mine as any others who lay claim to it."

*Beatrice's face hardened instantly.*
"Then I see not how I am to serve to aid in her wooing, your Majesty. It would appear that you need not my help in the task."
