((...about freaking time somebody made this... *mumbles*))
*Marie could not say how it happened, exactly. Certainly, she had been making headway thanks to her association with Henry Tudor, but waking up one morning and finding herself in her old apartments...*
Delightful.
*It had to be something she or Richard had done. Whatever it was, it had obviously been the right something for her to be here. Swiftly, she dressed in clothes she thought she'd never see again, and rang for a servant.
The girl came in, bowing and scraping, speaking words that were music to her ears:*
"Yes, your majesty?"
*Marie could practically feel her joy as though it were a palpable thing in the air*
"Tell me, is Richard about?"
*The girl bowed again*
"His Highness is out, but will be returning shortly."
His Highness.
*Oh, but this was great news indeed. She knew her smile was probably unnerving to the girl, but she didn't care one bit*
"Good, good. When he arrives, I want it to be made known that I should like to speak to him."
"Yes, your majesty."
*Marie barely noticed the girl's leaving the room*
Your Majesty. Your Highness.

*Richard knocked and peremptorily entered, a wide, wolfish grin on his face.*
"My queen," *he murmured, a glint in his eyes as if to say, "All this is ours, and is it not splendid?"*

"My King." She said, wearing a grin to match.
"It is as I had hoped, and better."

*Richard knew, deep inside, how it had all happened. And it did not bother him one iota. Everything pleased him. He had done nothing, and here he was. He'd have preferred a new body, perhaps--one less twisted, less grotesque--but as he approached Marie and held out his hand to her he felt every inch a monarch and it filled him with lustful glee.
He turned her about the room.*
"And where do we start, then, my love? What to do with our strange success?"

*She moved toward Richard, taking his hand once she got near enough to him*
"We need to show France that we are here. That we are the rule, and that rule is not to be denied."
*Her eyes glittered with an almost feverish light.*

*He kissed her palm with a sort of reverent lust.*
"Indeed," *he said.* "The position suits, but we must make our mark on the public. Our influence is limitless. We can alter the country for the better."

"We need to start with the peasantry. I have seen, from my wanderings through Paris, that they as well as the nobles have gotten out of control. We need to bring them back to heel, and show them their place."

*Richard smiled none too pleasantly.*
"Taxes," *he said simply.* "No better method exists, I'd warrant."

*She giggled, rather unpleasantly*
"Excellent! Let's head to the offices, and start it at once."

*Richard leaned in and kissed her, passionately, privately. It was a kiss that both celebrated their new success and somehow reassured him of his place in it.
His power, whatever her historical claims.
When the kiss was over, he retreated to a stately distance, in preparation for their entrance into public life.*

*The kiss was returned in kind, Marie almost bursting with excitement at finally getting this started.
Nodding to herself, she began to head for the door...*
"Now is the new beginning."

"Of everything," *Richard agreed. He arranged his smile to something more appropriate, and opened the door for Marie.
First, raise taxes. Then he'd get back at everyone who was mean to him in high school.*

((...now I'm stumped for what should happen next. All I have is this image in my head of a re-written version of the balcony sequence from Evita))

((We need to come up with unreasonable demands on the public to make us tyrants. And be ostentatious. Evita works.))

*Oscar had finally made it to Versailles.
The bow she presented to the queen was deep, and held her relief at finding her charge alive and well and looking quite magnificent. Oscar couldn't remember if Antoinette had been the queen before, but things were blurring in her mind and it all seemed quite natural, now. Oscar was just grateful that she was well, that Oscar had not caused any royal tragedy by her confused absence.*
"Your Highness. Es. I live to serve, as always."
