Jekyll smiled, a little condescendingly. He knew all about distance and the way the mind worked and knew the trouble wasn't "refreshing his mind" but having started on this course in the first place.
"I've been cleaning up the mess I made from the beginning," he muttered. "And I've run from it enough. No amount of refreshing is going to solve this."

"Wish I could help. Sometimes, I wish I were another man of science so we could both think on it."
((Oh, god. I have this mad urge to involve one of our other resident scientists in this mess))

Jekyll smiled tightly at the thought of Lucy as a man of science.
"My science has done no one any good thus far," he reminded Harris.
((I'm open.))

((I'd suggest Victor, but that might suck Henry and Lucy into a whole 'nother mess entirely. Or maybe Herbert West?))
He rubbed at the back of his neck thoughtfully.
"Maybe we could use someone else's?"

"Science?" Jekyll asked. He shook his head. "I've read everything I can find relating to the subject; either no one else is working in this area, or they're keeping as low a profile as I. Lower. I don't know how we'd find them."

"I could find out." John said, sounding a big shifty.
"Vampire circles often have information that human ones don't."

Henry raised an eyebrow.
"About this?" he asked, his spread hand indicating the table. "If you think it would help..." he trailed off. Harris would have to feel useful, he thought. Any man would.

He nodded, Jekyll being right in so much as he wanted to feel useful...though if John had been Lucy, it would have been the same need.
"If anyone would know of other scientists conducting experiments in secrets, it would be the Underground."

((Well, he's a sexist.))
He thought, perhaps, that last word had been capitalized, but he wasn't sure. "If you'd like to find out," he said, "I would appreciate it very much."

((I figured as much))
John nodded.
"I'll get on that as quickly as possible. I don't want either of us to have to sit around waiting for the next change."

Jekyll shuddered, feeling somewhat ill suddenly, and hoping it was just dread. Dread, he was used to, sadly. And guilt to intense it was a physical sickness.
"Indeed," he said. "In none of them have I found what I was looking for. I--" He shuddered again, but this time he knew it was not psychosomatic; he was changing? But into whom? Pains wracked his body, but either he was getting used to it or they were lesser...

Having gone through some interesting changes recently, John knew when to recognize it happening in someone else. He moved over to Jekyll, putting a steadying hand on his arm.

The changes--getting faster, and apparently of their own accord--were soon over, and when Jekyll looked up again it was as Harry. He was breathing hard, the exertion of the process not inconsiderable, but he managed a smile.
"Sorry, old boy," he said, genially enough. "I don't know why that happened, but thank you."

John breathed a sigh of relief, giving Harry a lopsided grin.
"It's all right. Hopefully if I shift again, it'll be something friendly like yourself."

Harry laughed. "You seem friendly enough." He tilted his head slightly, watching Harris for a moment. "This seems to be getting easier," he said. "Doesn't it? If it weren't for Lucille and Hyde, I'm not sure I'd mind overmuch."
