*Though Jack mocked her for it, Johanna thought it would be best if they actually had some source of money that didn't actively break any lawas. Wandering about- not a wise thing to do, but she'd had it with the sewers- she had been told that a maid was needed at the Morangias household. Granted, the person who told her that then crossed himself and offered her a crucifix, but still.
The servants let her in, telling her to wait her turn.*

The Comte, after some time letting the new girl wait, called her in to his study, where he stood at the sideboard, back to the door, and poured a small glass of brandy. Without turning, he stated clearly
"If you are over the age of twenty six, you may as well turn around now. If you feel you are outspoken or opinionated, the same."

"I'm almost seventeen, sir. I don't talk very much."
*This wasn't entirely true, since she had talked alot with Jack and Antony, but she wasn't scared of them. And she had the feeling things would be different with this man.*

"Are you married?"
He turned, gazing down at the girl, holding the glass in his remaining hand.

"No, sir."
I wish I had been...poor Antony.

A slight smirk played across the older man's lips.
"Very good. And I trust you have no children to care for either? If that is the case, you may take a room in the servants' quaters. With the understanding that you will see to all of your master's needs from the time of your employment until such contract be terminated. The pay is more than acceptable, I assure you."

"No children. Thank you very much, sir."
*Something to live on, at last, other than Jack's stolen chickens.*
Please don't let Jack come in and mess things up...

He nodded
"Good, then you are unattached."
Morangias strode over to the girl and circled around her, giving her a good looking-over in his usual predatory fashion.
"Your working attire will be provided for you in a couple of days, until then you may borrow a set from one of the other girls."
He sipped from his glass and stopped in front of her, lazily.
"What do you know of me, then? What have you heard?"

"Not very much, sir. That you are a hunter, and a man of society."
*Actually, the worried glances among the maids had told her more, but she needed this job.*

"Yes, I take frequent outtings to the contryside, and sometimes out of the country entirely. I'm looking for a new Head of House to see to my affairs when I am away. I've had a recent...vacancy and while I'd intended to fill the position with another man, an able woman might do just as well. Can you read, and do you know your numbers?"

*She nodded*
"I've been educated a bit, though I'm sure not as much as you have."
It's not fair to judge him yet. So he's a bit odd. You're the one who killed an asylum guard...

"Very good. You can educate yourself further, all my staff have full access to my library. You understand that once you are committed here, you may not leave until your contract is terminated?"

"I understand, sir."
*She was about to ask what sort of duties would be required, but decided against it.*

"Excellent. Keep in mind, then, that I am a hunter who has never once lost his prey, and upstairs with you to make yourself at home."

What was the point of that remark?
*Johanna nodded, heading in the direction he indicated*
