*The same NPC butler, that had popped up in other threads and whom I had almost forgotten I had, opened the door and looked at the redhead and the cloaked woman.*
"Can I help you?"

"Ve are here to see Master Ebauche. Tell him Magenta has something for him."

*The butler disappeared for a moment and then returned. He gestured for the women to enter.*
"Monsieur Ebauche is in the sitting room."
*The butler guided them to the room and then left.*
*Inside the room Francis looked up from behind the canvas that was standing in the middle of the room. He seemed much older then he was, sorrow having wreaked havoc on his face.*
"Good evening Magenta."
*He briefly glanced over at the cloaked woman and then back at Magenta, stepping away from the canvas.*

*Magenta smiled. It really was too bad nothing had ever happened between them, but she wasn't the brooding type.*
"Still lonely, I see?"
*She took her companion by the arm and removed the hood from her face*

*The brush Francis had been holding dropped to the floor. Francis couldn't believe his eyes. And then he rushed forward, wrapping his arms around Irene, his face a mask of shock.*
"Oh God, Irene, I thought you were gone! I didn't know here to look!"
*He pulled back and looked at Magenta.*
"Thank you for finding her! Thank you!"

"Vell..."
*Should she tell him? It seemed only fair to prevent future mishaps. But would it really do any good?*
"Look, if you have any trouble, come to me. I'll explain things. For now, I'll take my leave."
*She turned, leaving the couple alone*

*Irene- or her clone, who was technically still Irene- held on to her husband tightly*
"Francis, I'm so sorry about everything..."

*Francis was overjoyed to have his wife in his arms again. It felt like the weight of the world was just lifted off his shoulders.*
"It's okay. It's not your fault. Oh, Irene..."
*He ran a hand through her beautiful auburn hair.*
"... I love you."

*She kissed him, tears in her eyes*
"I love you Francis. Not a day has gone by when I haven't thought of you."

*Francis felt the tears well up in his eyes, but tried to urge them back.*
"Are you alright? Do you need anything, my sweetm, sweet Irene?"

"Just you."
*She gazed sadly into his eyes*
"The man I love."

*Francis gently touched her cheek, still in shock.*
"I don't deserve you. I promised to keep you safe and look at what a banged job I made of it."

"Francis, you're my husband, not my bodyguard. It's more than any man could be expected to do."

"I'm sorry. I am so sorry."
*Nothing that Irene would say could relieve the guilt that Francis felt. But that didn't matter now. The only thing that mattered was that the love of his life was finally by his side again.*
