Valmont was not above slumming it, on occasion. In times of actual trial, should he ever have admitted to having any, his misery would most likely have been hidden from the world. His presence here, now, was therefore no indication of the state of his soul but merely another whim, another experience waiting to happen.
Of course his nature was such, too, that substances like this rarely carried him away on a cloud of released inhibitions. Valmont had no inhibitions, though he was at all times entirely in control of himself, and so alcohol and drugs were never allowed free reign though he did enjoy their effects.
His jacket off, his snowy shirt and cravat shone in the rather smokey interior as he reclined on some pillows, the pipe delicately poised between his lips and the pillow though he had smoked about as much as he'd planned to and was, at this point, mostly interested in observing his surroundings with the added pleasantness of detached euphoria. As such, he was likely to cut a quite different figure than most of the inhabitants, who lolled senselessly or in various states of addiction.

Daniel was making a pass through that particular area of the den when he saw Valmont. The man, unlike the others in the den, definitely had his wits about him, though that wasn't all of what had caught Daniel's attention.
Valmont simply stood out. Not in a garish or obvious way, but more in the way that people with a lot of charisma seemed to just naturally draw attention to themselves, even when they weren't trying to. Valmont also had that air that a lot of the "decadent rich" seemed to bear, though it had a different quality to it.
He stopped in his tracks, not at all hiding the visual sweep he gave Valmont.

As his lips closed once more around the pipe, Valmont raised his eyes to sweep just as ostentatiously over Daniel. Though there was something feminine about the passive nature of his posture and gaze, the effect did not deny his essential manhood.
This one was pretty. He seemed uncommonly graceful, as well, with a naturalness to it that was unconscious. Not that Valmont minded the overtly performative, but this man-boy was something else. And there was a needy look in his eyes that Valmont's own unclouded ones recognized. In response he smiled around the thin mouthpiece of the pipe, cool as could be but somehow inviting.

That smile, really, was all the signal he needed. Somehow maintaining his calm, though the agitation still showed in his eyes, he slowly walked over to the lounging Valmont.
"Care for some company?" He said, tone openly suggestive. Daniel didn't normally go for subtlety, and tonight was no exception.

Valmont's capability for subtlety was doubtlessly more developed than Daniel's, but that did not mean he required it in all his interactions. Still, the young man had clued him in on the likely finesse with which this interaction would be carried out
"If it's yours," Valmont murmured, his smooth voice slightly smoke-roughened.

A small smile briefly appeared at the words before fading away as soon as it had shown. Daniel joined Valmont on the cushions, sitting close enough that their shoulders brushed.
"I confess, a bit more than just 'company' is what I need."
He lowered his voice.
"Something more base than that."

This was just a bit too obvious for Valmont's taste (without being absurdly obvious and therefore interesting again) and he raised an eyebrow at the other man. Valmont was not exactly picky, but he wasn't to be had for such a line as that. If he had to make his own fun, so be it.
"My dear boy," he said, though the man couldn't have been much younger than himself, "if you want me to buy you opium, you're going to have to offer something in return." He was, of course, deliberately misunderstanding him, for his own amusement.

He rubbed at the back of his neck a moment, as though thinking it over, though he already had a response prepared. He could play along, if need be. It was something he didn't mind doing, even in a rush.
"I'm afraid I'm a bit limited in what I can give...though I certainly don't want to slight you."

Valmont cast a pitying look on him.
"I'm certain you can think of something," he said. "And I'll worry about being slighted. I can handle myself."
The double entendre was not particularly meant to be subtle, but this was not a subtle place. Valmont would have been just as happy if the boy had sunk to his knees before him and demanded a f---, and the opium he had smoked already made things a little more distant, his need for true novelty a little less pronounced. The boy was pretty and desperate, so why not?
He put the pipe to the man's lips, his other hand tracing the oddly cool back of his hand.

"I'm sure you can. I'll think of something, rest assured."
He took the offered pipe, eyes flicking down to his hand and back to meet Valmont's. Did the other man notice? Would it even factor in?
Not that it turned people off--he'd encountered plenty that didn't seem to care if he was cool to the touch.

Lots of people were cool to the touch. And Valmont had encountered far stranger things than low body temperature.
"Hmm. And if you don't, I will," he said. Whether the man thought that was a promise or a threat was entirely up to him, and didn't matter anyway.

Daniel, of course, took that as a promise, though under other circumstances a threat would have worked as well. He took a few puffs from the pipe before offering it back to Valmont, moving in such a way that their bodies made brief, brushing contact.
"I don't doubt that at all."

Valmont took the pipe, but set it back on its tray without smoking. He was as high as he wished to be, and he was always careful about his ability to "perform."
"Am I so obvious?" Valmont asked, pained, though of course he was no more obvious than the boy was being.

"Not any more than I."
Daniel certainly knew he was being an open book at the moment, but that was the idea. He'd been hoping to run across someone that wouldn't mind an unsubtle partner in a tryst.
Daniel's cool fingers ghosted over Valmont's shoulder, lingering only briefly before dropping away.

"We're well matched, then," Valmont said, though he took pride of course in matching--and surpassing--nearly anyone. Like a snake striking, Valmont was on him, his lips pressed to the other man's. He did not put a lot of importance on kissing, but it was an opener and informed one greatly about his partner.
