*Melpomene slowly climbed up the stairs that led to the roof, feeling as emo as always. Of course she had a good reason for being down. She couldn't die, something she had found out by dying a couple of times and then coming back to life.
Mel opened the door to the roof and stepped out into the chilly night. She liked it up here. It was quiet. Peaceful. She could think up here, try to find out what the hell was wrong with her.*

Julius had been sitting on the roof, thinking very hard about how he was too live in this New Gaul, when a woman interrupted his thoughts.
He said nothing, he hoped she would not see him.

*Scratch that peaceful and quiet part. There was a man on the roof with her. Mel had decided to hate all men. Because they were stupid and mean and arrogant. Okay, maybe hate was a very strong word, but when Mel looked at the man she did glare. It was a resentful glare.*

He sighed "Forgive my interruption" he bowed "Julius Caesar."

*If Mel had been literate she would have probably replied to that with a sarcastic 'Sure and I am Cleopatra' before walking away. But she wasn't. Hell, she had never heard about any bloody Romans. So she gave a weak smile. It wasn't a forgiving smile.*
"Seems like I was interrupting you. Melpomene D'Avrie."
*She replied warily.*

Melpomene, the muse of tragedy he smiled "A man such as myself would never be perturbed by the interruption of a lady."

*Mel raised an eyebrow and stared at the man as if she was saying: 'Lose the long words, thank you very much.'*
"Yeah. I'm not really a lady."
*She gestured to her clothes.*
"Just a maid."

"And there is nothing wrong with that!" He smiled "The life of a servant is worth as much as the life of a lord."
So that's why the people loved him.

*Mel snorted.*
"Oh really? I'd rather be a fine lady then a poor maid, if it's no problem to you. Cause to you my life might be worth as much as that of some fancies lady, but out there ... "
*She gestured to roofs of Paris.*
"... it sure isn't so. Hell, a girl like me could die and nobody would give a damn."

Julius stared with concern "That can't be so."

*Mel laughed. The sound wasn't merry at all, in fact it was the sound of someone who had been mistreated by life in ways you could hardly imagined.*
"Trust me it's true."
*Mel suddenly shivered. It was kinda cold outside. Mel averted her eyes from Caesar and looked at the roofs while rubbing her arms warm.*

Julius had heard the complaints of his people, and although he hadn't always been the easiest man to persuade, he found himself inexplicably intrigued by the young woman before him.
He removed his jacket and walked over to her "Would you care to borrow my coat?"

*NEW NIGHT*
The Joker strode to the rim of the opera house roof, casting an indifferent gaze over the luminous city. A chilly breeze whipped back his unkempt hair as he closed his eyes and watched as it all went up in flames, as it all... burned.
And it was beautiful.

"Wow dude, where you like in the back of the line when faces were being handed out."
*Rosette said. She sat on that statue Gerik went all emo on during the movie (you totally know what I mean. I hope.) and looked down at the Joker with a big grin.*

The Joker's thoughts were rudely scattered into oblivion as the garish colors of the dancing flames receded into the cold blackness of the night. He turned with deliberate sluggishness, revulsion splattered across his now-open eyes.
He threw a glare in the girl's direction but uttered with frightening nonchalance, "Well, I happen to like my face, little girl. It brings out the best qualities in me, don't you think?"
It would seem as though his uncouth grin stretched from ear to ear.
