*She shook her head readily.*
"No. I'm not. Truly..."

*María smiled warmly and sent her a friendly gaze.*
"Of course not. I believe in you. You and I, we know there is something else, don't we?"

*That seemed to do little to calm her.*
"Can we...talk about...something else?" *She squeaked. Suddenly, she jumped in her chair.*
"I don't know!" *She barked. At the empty space on her right.*

*María smiled friendly, willing to oblige the young girl.*
"Well of course we can. What do you want to..."
*She was interrupted by the young girl barking to the empty space on her right.*
"What did he or she ask about?"
*She whispered.*

*The girl's eyes refocused quickly on Maria, looking quite embarrassed.*
"Who?"
*She smiled anxiously.*

*María looked at her for a while, then smiled and leaned back.*
"Ah, never mind. It was nothing."
*She didn't want to embarrass her guest.*

*The girl tried to manage a smile, but she was growing more agitated by the minute, squirming in her seat between multiple unseen...somethings.*
"So...what else?" *She squeaked helplessly, trying to look completely normal.*

*The Duchess smiled, trying to look as if everything was normal, and no ghosts were there to haunt her. She tried to not embarrass her guest, to pretend she didn't notice anything unusual. Instead she tried to find a theme that could interest the girl.*
"Let's talk about... music. Do you like music?"

*The girl shrugged nervously.*
"Uh...well...some I guess."
*She glanced to the right, looking rather horrified for a moment.*
"Don't get to hear much though. Just...at churches."

*María smiled and leaned back in her chair.*
"Yes, I like church music too. Have you ever heard Händel's Messiah?"

"Um...maybe..."
*She frowned.*
"I'm not sure which one that is..."
*She looked behind the lady before snapping at the space at her right.*
"It's not my fault!"

*María smiled.*
"The Messiah has many good songs, but the one I like best is the Halleluja choir."
*She started singing softly, to show which song she meant.*
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah [3x]
For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah [2x]
For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth [3x] Hallelujah

*The girl listened, whimpering softly, but as Maria crested in song, she let out a sharp scream, falling from her chair to the floor. She huddled there, covering her face.*

"Mon Dieu! Are you all right?"
*Maria stood quicly up from her chair and knelt down by the huddling girl on the floor. She put her arms around her and tried to lift her up.*
"I am so sorry. Nobody has reacted like that to my voice before...."

*The girl did not answer, turning her body away from Maria, here hands tight against her face. But even so, blood started to peek through the fingers of her right hand.*
