"Until..."
He paused, trying to find an appropriate phrase.
"Until... some other time, I suppose."
He stood, kissed her hand, and began the trek back to the house.

*For a moment, she watched him go, planning to leave a few minutes later, so as not to arouse suspicion.*
"Richard, wait!"
*She stood and hurried after him.*
"Your coat."

"Oh. Right."
He pulled it on, made sure that no-one could see him do it, and he kissed her one last time.
"I love you."

*She felt a little thrill of happy butterflies in her stomach at his words. She was sure that she would never be tired of hearing him say that. Grinning like a fool, she kissed him back briefly.*
"Love you."

Now he really did go back inside.

*Still grinning happily, Pina wandered back to the beach in order not to arrive back at the same time as Richard, and therefore not make anyone suspicious. Her veil was laying right where she'd dropped it before, and she picked it up, looking at it thoughtfully. After a few moments, she came to a decision.
With a joyful whoop, she flung it away from her as hard as she could, almost laughing as it landed in the water. She didn't need to hide anymore- he thought she was beautiful!
She went down to the water's edge, looking out over the bay in the quickly fading light. The clouds from last night's storm were still threatening rain, and thunder rumbled off in the distance. She wandered a ways down the beach, until a neglected-looking cottage came into view. She was going to go explore it further, when her foot hit on something hard, partially buried and covered in seaweed. Inexplicably nervous, she glanced behind her before bending over to push the seaweed away with a puzzled frown. Something must have washed up in last night's storm. Part of a boat, perhaps. There was writing on it- she squinted to better see the faded words in the dark...*
Je Reviens
*I Return?*
"What on-"
*A hand grasped her shoulder at the same moment lightning flashed, closer than it had before. She tumbled forward with a scream, twisting around to see who- (or, as her imagination warned her, what) had grabbed her. It was a man- someone she didn't recognize, with a look on his face almost as terrified as her own. She tried to speak, but no sound came out.
The look of horror soon left his face, replaced by a slightly vacant, very confused stare.*
"You ain't Missus de Winter," *he said slowly.*
"What?"
"I thought you was her, come back from the sea..."
*What was he talking about? Her mother was friends with Mrs. de Winter. What about the sea?*
"N- no..."
"She won't come back, will she, miss? The sea took her. The sea don't give things back when it takes 'em..."
*Pina stared. The man was clearly insane.*
"Er, no...?"
"You won't tell no one you saw me here? I don't want to go to the asylum..."
*She knew it.*
"Um, of course not. I think maybe you should go home..."
*Providing, of course that he even had one. He looked guilty at that, which she supposed was a good sign.*
"You won't tell nobody?"
*Pina got up slowly and began edging around him.*
"No, I promise. Er, you know, I really think I should be getting back..."
*Thankfully, he made no move to stop her as she passed him and sprinted in the direction of the house, partially to get away from the strange man, and partially to see if anyone knew anything about what she'd found.*
