"I've heard that before."
*Though whether she spoke the truth or not the girl wasn't full of bluster about what she spoke.*
"Tell you what... my treat, a cup of chili and a beer... a light one and you have it out on the back porch where we have the outdoor band set up. You tell the story and I'll see if I'm satisfied."
*War looked to Sherman to see if he had gotten the order and frowned at the sergeant's open mouthed stare.*
"Shut it, Top. I've got a headache and need some fresh air. She needs food. And you keep looking at me like that and I'll turn you into a R.E.M.F."
*War turned to stalk toward the side entrance where the porch was, his boots utterly quiet as Sherman handed over a cup of what smelled like napalm disguised as chili and the lightest beer they had, which still looked more like liquid toast than golden water.*

*Nim'gyola took the food and drink but only after she'd placed a bag of coins on the counter and nudged them towards Sherman.*

*War stood at the door, holding it open. Catching Sherman's eye he shook his head and the grizzled old sergeant slid the bag of coins into the jar at one end of the bar. The one that held the Soldier's Orphans and Widows fund. The bag rested easily at the top on a very large stack of coins from every nation.*
"You coming?"

"Yes," *she said, following him out.*
"Where would you like me to begin?"

*Taking a seat on the railing of the porch War slips a pack of smoke out of his rolled up shirt sleeve. Lighting one he set the pack on the railing next to him and inhales deeply. As he speaks the smoke escapes his mouth in little wisps.*
"Beginnings usually a good place."
*He motioned toward the pack with his head.*
"Want one?"

"No."
*She sniffed the chilli before taking a bite. Havng chewed and swallowed and taken a sip of beer, she began.*
"My parents...were farming people. German. Poor. Somehow they found they owed a debt to the elven people. I was never made aware of the details; suffice it to say I was sold as an infant. Do not believe that the elves are a kind race, naturally kind creatures...they are mischevious at best and cruel at worst. Human emotions have no sway with them, as they are not human. As I am not human. I was, once. No longer. I have become one of them as if I were born to them...but the distinction was always preserved; and I was their slave."
*She took another bite.*
"It took me some time to amass the courage and materials I needed to murder my masters. Elves do not die with ease or grace. I knew I would have but one chance--and, well, now you see I am here before you. It was indeed a battle, though I myself am army and commander both."

*War took a drag and half listened until she mentioned the elves. Exhaling he gave the girl more attention, again looking her over from behind his shades.*
"Single warriors are as welcome here as commanders of vast hordes. Though you'll forgive me if I spoil the commanders a bit more in my house."
*War watched her eat, giving her time to take more than a few bites here and there.*
"And how do you feel about them now, the elves that is."

"As I have always felt. I hate them beyond anything else."

"There seems to be a rash of them lately. Went for centuries without running into one and in the past month I've seen two and heard of more. They bug me. Even their warriors bug me."
*War shakes his head and flicks the remains of the cigarette butt away watching the sparks explode on the sidewalk.*
"Well kiddo... no offense but you're small time compared to most we get in here. But you're not rude. That'll win you at least a little respect inside. So tell me... what do you do now that you've won your freedom?"

"I'll never consider myself free until I have brought every last one of them to an end, having suffered all that they caused me to suffer, and more. For now I bide my time and seek a way to gain the upper hand. It would be foolish to attack them all, now."

"Perfectly reasonable. So one lone slip of a girl against the teaming horde of pointy eared tree humpers? Do you strike from hiding or challenge them to single combat?"
*War was amused. She had fire for one so young. He wondered what she could be forged into.*

"Some time ago I might have said there were no honour to be found in striking from behind...but now I find my opinions changed. I'd assume any means if it meant their end."

*War nodded.*
"Smart girl. Nothing wrong with taking your opponent unaware. Maybe you should start taking ears as trophies...."
*A wicked grin spread across his lips as a thought came to him.*
"Maybe I should start offering a drink bounty per ear..."
*Lowering his head to peer over his shades he offered the young girl a wink.*
"And what of the women and children?"

"If there is a choice, I will take them first as they grow and breed. If you wish to kill a tree, you do not pluck off its leaves or lop off a branch--you cut it clean through at the roots."

"So the race is by default guilty then? No quarter given? No exceptions?"
*War watched her intently.*
"I'm not judging or trying to dissuade you. Just curious as to your breadth and scope. What about half breeds, either intentional breeding or the product of rape."
