*Philippe, once sobered sat down to write a letter.*
Dear La Sorelli I feel I owe you an apology for my appearance in our last meeting, I was not myself. However despite the possible impressions given I was delighted to see you. Perhaps as now I am apologising I should do so also for events far previous to the ball. I hope we are both in better circumstances now. I meant what I said to you.
If I have at all offended you in my response you have again, my sincerest apologies.
Your Friend Philippe De Chagny.

*It wasn't long after that the letter received a response*
Dear Philippe,
I'm glad that you did write to me, I have few people I can call friends in 'society' (the ladies have plainly showed their dislike for a dancer in their midst).
Please don't be sorry, I understand that you are going through some rough times (though I know not what, and I did not ask and refuse to listen to gossip). And for what has long passed--no regrets. If I had to choose to never meet you, I would still approach you as I did in the opera house so long ago.
I will always be glad to hear from you.
Your friend, Angelina Sorelli-Bricusse

*Philippe entered his study to find a letter waiting for him. Smiling he read it.*
Dear Angelina Sorelli-Bricusse ( Permit me?)
Thank you for your reply, my ills are no more than being madly in love with my wife- strange is it not?.
You spoke frankly so I will do so in return. However I hope, one day all will be well.
Alas, I regret that society does not improve, nor the people in it. With time you grow a certain fond deafness I fear.
My feelings are as yours. We learn much whilst we are young.

*The letter made her smile when she received it, and she penned a reply to send to him as soon as was possible. All her other correspondence could wait*
Dear Philippe,
My goodness, you can use just my first name if you wish. I wouldn't want your hand to cramp up writing the introduction to your letters.
I'm glad to hear about how much you love her--I always knew that you, at least, were sincere in your affections.
Society people, I have discovered, should be treated the same way I treat my lawyer--smile and nod, but don't ever let your guard down.
Your friend, Angelina Sorelli-Bricusse

Dear Angelina,
Your letter made me smile, you have learned quickly. I hear they are producing a new Opera, are you still involved?.
I thank you for the compliment, I hope that you can soon meet her, you would like her very much I would imagine. She is unlike anything else I have ever met. However, perhaps I should ask your advice, knowing you my friend will be honest with me.
Is it ever wrong to love too much?
Your Friend Philippe

Dear Philippe,
Society tends to make you learn rather quickly, I've discovered.
I am dancing in the new opera! I'm so excited by it, as I haven't performed on stage in ages. I would love if you and your wife could come see the opera--by all accounts it will be wonderful this year.
I would definitely love to meet your Rebecca, who has captured your heart so well. I would say that there is no such thing as loving someone too much, but there can be too little. Not that I think De Chagnys love too little.

Dear Angelina,
I hope so! Perhap when you meet you reassure her of the nature of our contact, I have no need to explain further.
Also, I pleased to inform you that we are expecting. This fills me with hope and dread, I know little of children!

Dear Philippe,
I would be happy to put to rest any anxiety she might have. I wouldn't want your happiness compromised by a misunderstanding.
Congratulations on your first child! I do not have any yet myself, but I've dearly wanted at least one before I get too old. I know you'll do well--we all start off not knowing about babies, after all.

**MONTHS LATER**
*It arrived in a rush envelope, meant to arrive as quickly as possible. It was rather thin, but was addressed to Philippe De Chagny with express instructions that no one but he was to open it. Inside was a short note*
Philippe,
I have to speak with you as soon as possible. It is a matter of utmost importance that can't be put into a letter. Please meet me as soon as you are able. I am usually found at the Opera House these days.

****FORWARD TO NAPLES.********
Dear Angelica,
I only recently received your letter and as you can see I could not visit, less I return for a day. Is it so very urgent?, I will do so if you wish me to.
Philippe.

Dear Philippe,
I am afraid it is the most urgent matter I have ever had to bring to your attention. Please, it is very important, not just for me but for you as well.
