Pina falling in the water, Emmy nearly- he shuddered, knowing exactly what she had almost done, being caught leaving the boathouse, mistaking Mr de Winter for a servant, reminding him of how his wife had died...
Clearly, Richard thought as he walked down one of the hallways in the east wing, it was not his day.

*Mrs. Danvers swooped down the hall, looking down her nose at Richard.*
"You were in Mrs. de Winter's boat house," *she said. Her tone wasn't accusing, but there was a hint of malice.*

His patience officially shot, Richard found himself staring at this bizarre woman who'd come out of nowhere before blurting:
"How the HELL did YOU know!?"

*Her mouth twitched into what could have been a smirk for a moment, but it disappeared as quickly as it had come.*
"Mr. de Winter doesn't like people going into the boathouse, sir," *she said.* "It stirs troubling memories."

*Mrs. Danvers didn't hear him- or pretended not to hear him as she disappeared down the hall.
Pina, on the other hand had heard him. In a room just off the hall, she sat in a window seat, watching the surf and pouting. It should, she thought, be raining.*

"Don't worry about it," he sighed. "The way this week has been going so far, I'm starting to suspect you and I are the only ones here."
