((Not if she's mobile.))
*Valerie stepped out of her room, walking gingerly, but looking much better, cozily wrapped up in one of the hotel's fluffy bathrobes.*
"Do you think I could steal one of these?"

*Valmont spared her a moment's glance.*
"Not mine," *he said.* "Go on ahead."
*His eyes returned to the page.*
"You're looking slightly less ghastly."

"Well, I've stopped worrying I'll pop a stitch in my nether regions every time I sneeze," *she said brightly.* "If that's not a reason to whistle a happy tune, nothing is."

"Charming," *he said.* "There's a word picture I shall have to live with the rest of my life."

"Oh, stop your whining," *she said, sitting on a chair across from him.* "It's not the first time I've disgusted you, nor is it the last."

*Valmont's lips quirked into the barest of smiles.*
"No, indeed," *he said.* "Have you read this?" *he asked suddenly, holding the book up.*

"Ew. I mean, yes," *she said with a sigh.* "Mademoiselle Bronte managed to create some of the most unsympathetic characters in existence, present company included."

*Valmont pouted, a bit miffed at being ousted.*
"There isn't enough sex," *he said.* "That would solve everything. Her sister had it right--but only with that Bertha woman. Everyone else was a terrible bore."

*Valerie rolled her eyes and picked up the room service menu.*
"I'm going to get something to eat. Can I order you a snack or something? A call girl?"

"If I paid for it as much as you seem to think, I'd be a pauper. And wouldn't enjoy the glorious reputation I do. You should respect your elders. And no... Thank you."

*When a maid responded to the bell pull, Valerie flicked open the menu and scanned it.*
"The Lobster Thermidor, potatoes au gratin, asparagus on the side, and creme brulee, please. And a bottle of your finest red, and make it a good year--something older than him," *she pointed to Valmont.*

"That gives you a lot of leeway," *he added.* "Actually--make that two. Of everything."

*When the meal came and was laid out on a small oak table, Valerie stuck her hands into the deep pockets of her robe and sat down at the table, shaking out a linen napkin and laying it across her lap before reaching for her fork, delicately poking at the lobster.*

"May I join you, or would that suggest a level of camaraderie you're not willing to admit to?"

"Well don't let yours go cold on my account," *she said, pointing at the seat opposite.*
