*He smiled more genuinely, not realizing how much he had missed her. It was strange. He embraced her for a long moment, not a saying anthing, just wanting to savor being here with her. Finally he released her, a hint of sadness in his eyes.*
"Forgive me, princess. I fear my magic may not be as potent here. I worry that I will not be able to entertain you."

*She smiled and shook her head.*
"Oh, Julian," *she said with a hint of laughter.* "I don't like you just because you can do magic."

*Julian tried to smile, but couldn't help but feel anxiety. Would his magics work at all this far from the Opera?*
"But it makes it easier, does it not?"
*He grinned and pressed his lips to her forehead gently.*

"Perhaps a bit more entertaining," *she admitted,* "but those of us without get along fine, mostly."
*Her smile was wide and teasing.*

*He looked at her for a long moment.*
"What is it that you do then? To entertain yourself."
*His eyes narrowed.*
"You can't possibly read all the time."

*She laughed.*
"Not all the time, no."
*She paused a moment, thinking.*
"Well, the grounds are absolutely gorgeous. I could spend hours in the garden, or watching the ocean. Finn, Mrs. de Winter's dog is always good for walks- he's adorable. And I help with the wedding stuff..." *she shrugged.* "I keep busy."

*Julian shifted, growing a bit anxious.*
"I...I have never found peace in open spaces. They...I...It is not like home."
*All the memories, his mother's and his own, were focused in the safety and familiarity of the indoors.*

"Oh... well I like the change from being cooped up inside all the time," *she said with a slight shrug, as if she'd said something wrong.*

Oh course you would. You are not Erik--er, Julian.
*Julian nodded, his lips tightening.*
"It's all right. It is just difficult to adjust to."
*He paused, trying to figure out if it was all right to ask.*
"And she...your mother...still makes you wear the veil?"

"Oh no, no. I think she'd rather I didn't," *she said.* "But I do- people are going to look at me funny anyway. I'd rather it be because they don't know, rather than feeling sorry for me or being disgusted or something."
*She realized that she'd started ranting and shifted uncomfortably.*

*Something ate at his core and Julian pulled her warmly into his arms as if that could somehow cure the problems with the world and it's terrible views of people like his darling princess.*
"I...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you."
*His lips pursed as he tried to figure something.*
"I...I could try again. If you wanted."
*He didn't say it, but made a faint gesture to her face. If she would truly be happier here, in the normal world, he would do anything he could to make it easier on her.*

*She rested in his arms contentedly, but met his eyes with a frown.*
"Would that... be safe, so far away from home?"
*She didn't want a repeat of the events of ten years ago- she'd never forget that.*

*Julian mirrored her frown.*
"I...do not know. But it would be worth any risk, to see you happy."

"I don't want you hurt on account of me, Julian," *she warned, but a small, selfish part of her wanted so desperately to be normal. She staunchly ignored it.*

*Julian's heart ached. He wanted to give her this.*
"Please, princess...let me try. We won't know unless I do."
*But there was a fear lingering in the back of his mind.*
