*Jeremy smiled as he flipped the sign to open and returned to wiping the counters down with his rag. He'd been away for a while but it was time to get back to doing what he loved. Cooking for other's enjoyment. He checked the blackboard against his mental grocery list of things he had picked up this morning at the market. Everything was in order.* Today's menu:
- Chicken Club Roulade with greens and buttery rice.
- Full crawfish boil with all the trimmings.
- Venison steaks with mashed potatoes, cream gravy and cornbread.
*It wasn't fancy and probably not at all appetizing for of the Parisians but he didn't care. Every single item was comfort food to him and that's exactly what he wanted to serve.*

*Malefica entered the restaurant and looked around. It looked nice and clean. And she needed something to brighten her up now. She carefully placed herself at a table in the corner and looked aroudn with a sad expression on her face.*

*Jeremy looked up as the bell above the door rang.*
"Hey now... no reason to sit that far. I'm skinny enough, don't need the exercise."
*He grins and pours water into a chilled glass.*
"Why don't you come join me at a closer table since you're the only one in here. And on your way you can tell me what you'd like to eat."

*Malefica smiled and looked up at him. He was the first friendly face she had seen for... days, or so she felt. She stood up and moved over to the table closest to him.*
"Sorry about that. My mood is not the best at the moment. I would like to try something new. Just surprise me. I'll eat whatever you bring."

*He really shouldn't be surprised when an unhappy woman entered his place. Considering where he decided to set up shop.*
"Sure thing. I'll see what I can whip up."
*He set the water down at her table before slipping back behind the counter. Within a few minutes he's slinging pans and several raw ingredients and humming happily to himself.*
"Don't want to scar you so I'll keep away from the crawfish this time."
*He grins and starts working on a cream gravy.*

*Malefica smiled and looked at him while he was cooking. She took a sip from her water, curiously waiting for whatever he was making.*
"Thank you monsieur, you are very kind. My name is Malefica."
*For one moment she wondered if she should tell him that she was a witch, but she didn't want to scare him.*
"Have you been running this place for long?"

"Almost a year now off and on... I'm not always around and the place stays closed when I can't make it in."
*Pulling the boiling pot of potatoes off the fire, Jeremy drained them and began mashing them in a very large bowl.*
"And name's Jeremy. Malefica huh? Doesn't sound Parisian."
*Not that he really knew what sounded Parisian.*

*Malefica smiled. She didn't want to mention she was part goddess, part devil. Humans had so strange ways of reacting. But at least her father was a Greek god...*
"I am Greek," *she smiled.* "At least part Greek. And you, where are you from? America?"

"Texas actually. I know, I know.. it's in America. But ask most people from below the mason-dixon line where they're from and you'll get, "the South," Texas is like that... only more specific and proud."
*He winked and pulled the steak off the grill.*
"I once dated a half greek girl. Best damn baklava I've ever tasted. And taught me that yogurt on meat isn't all bad."

*Malefica smiled and smelled the steak*
"Mmmm. Smells delicious," *She smiled* "I use to cook a lot myself. Sovlaki."

"Well since you're not from back home I'll ask... cream gravy on the potatoes ok?"
*He plated a scoop of potato and the steak before slicing into the cornbread and slathering it with fresh butter. One thing Paris had going for it was some of the fresh ingredients he had access to.*
"And the customary drink with this is iced tea but you're welcome to water, wine or something... harder."

*Malefica's beautiful face brighened up with joy by the sight of this delicious-looking meal.*
"Cream gravy is perfect. As for the drink, honestly... " *She blushed* "I am not used to drinking..."

*Jeremy nodded and poured a ladle of gravy over the potatoes.*
"Well then iced tea it is. Corruption of the innocent really isn't my thing." It's corruption of the corrupt that I enjoy.
*He finishes plating the food and delivers it to her table.*
"See.. much closer for us lazy folk. Let me get that tea."
*Returning behind the counter he pours her glass quickly and brings it to her table.*
"Anything else?"

*Malefica smiled and tasted the food. It was delicious. She sipped the tea also.*
"If you only could bring me Icarus back..." *She smiled* "Forgive me, it was a bad idea. The food tastes delicious."

*Jeremy's eyebrow raises.*
"Well the only Icarus I know, melted his wings and has been dead for entirely too long for me to be able to do anything with."
*He really should have known. In this place he couldn't swing a bad cultural reference without hitting a tragically unhappy woman, and this one had chosen his place.*
"You obviously want to talk about it, otherwise you wouldn't have brought it up so randomly... So have at... vent as needed. I probably can't do much about it but sometimes it helps to get it off your chest. Sometimes it doesn't."
*His lips raised into a slight smile hesitantly.*
