*Lisette ducked into an unoccupied area, desperately trying to hide her steadily reddening cheeks. She rubbed at them as though trying to wipe the blush away. As she did so, a tear fell onto the back of her hand. She stared at it, feeling more tears come to her eyes, threatening to flood. She'd been holding back the feeling ever since she'd run across them the night before, but after seeing them together first in the parlor and then upstairs... The floodgates broke, and she started to sob into her hands. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Why had she let herself care so much about him? Worse, why had she let herself love him? She should've known better, considering their stations and that such things, if allowed to blossom, only ever ended sadly. But, she'd gone against what her mind had told her, and instead listened to her heart. And what good had it done her? Nothing. All she had now was that same heart, broken, for someone that hadn't even known it belonged to them in the first place. Sniffling, she wiped away her tears with her apron, quickly smoothing out her hair and making sure her hands had stopped shaking before she stepped back out into the kitchens. It wouldn't do to let the others see her this way. It was improper. *

**NEW DAY**
*She'd been scrubbing pots in the sink when she heard voices. They had a strange resonance to them, and it took her a while to realize that it was Aimee and Marius. She glanced about the kitchen, stopping the scrubbing to search for the source.
Ah, there it was--an air vent. Odd. She'd never heard anything through it before. Her face drained of all color, however, when she realized what the conversation was about. Choking back a sob, she suddenly bolted from the room, not wanting to hear any more of it*

**SOME TIME LATER**
*Aimee walked right on into the kitchen, poking about in the cupboard for peanut butter, which she intended on putting on top of a bagel. She really wanted a bagel with peanut butter right now.*

*She'd had a good cry in the garden, and a nice walk to calm herself before returning to the kitchen to finish her work. She blinked in surprise at Aimee being in there, feeling her posture automatically stiffen at the sight of her.*
"Bonjour, madame."
*With a curt nod, she returned to the pots and pans*

*She smiled warmly and continued to root around, finding what she wanted before deftly slicing the bagel, toasting it in the oven, and then spreading peanut butter on top. She took a napkin and then a large bite.*

*Lisette tried to ignore the presence of Aimee, concentrating all her energy and attention into washing the dishes. She didn't realize it, but she was scrubbing rather hard and causing her muscles to ache because of the stiffness*

*Aimee noticed her obvious discomfort... it showed on her face.*
"Are you quite alright?" *She asked, concerned.*

*She hadn't been expecting Aimee to speak to her, and when she did her hand slipped and she dropped the sponge into the now dirty water. She heaved a sigh, forcing her expression to become neutral before turning to face the other woman*
"Of course, Madame. Perhaps a little tired, but the work is almost done."

"If you're sure... don't overwork yourself, Lisette." *She said. Everything in her countenance was entirely sincere, of course.*

*Some of the stiffness slackened, though not all of it. She wanted to hate Aimee, but couldn't. Aimee wasn't shrewish or nasty to the servants, or any other such horror. It did not mean that Lisette was entirely happy about her, though.
She heaved a sigh*
"I won't, my lady. I promise."
*She was surprised that she did in fact sound tired*

*She smiled a little.*
"I'm sure the house can manage without you for a day... you should take tomorrow off and rest."

"I...suppose I will." She said, surprising herself.
When she thought about it, though, she realized that it was best she get away from the house for a while, for her sanity's sake.*

*She smiled, finishing her bagel, and went off humming and rubbing her still-flat stomach.*

*Done with the dishes, she carefully cleaned up the rest of the sink area before ducking back outside into the garden. She could relax better out there, gather her thoughts. Try not to cry again. *
