*Suddenly, everything felt off, and Maria realized with horror what was happening--right on the edge of victory, SHE was returning*
"No...what..."
You...NOOOO!
*Sarah Maria blinked, and felt a stab of sick fear as she saw that she held a near-dead Norman in her arms.*
"NORMAN!" She screamed.

*Norman heard her, but it seemed so far away. He tried to smile, to reassure her. Everything was fine. He was in her arms. He was warm.
Everything had gone away. Like a blanket over all the loud, painful things in his life. Like they'd just been snuffed out.
Didn't she see that?*

*He wouldn't last. But if she finished the process--*
Oh no, no no no no no...
*She didn't want to. She knew that vampirism could turn one into a saint (a rarity) or a demon (more common). Some constantly fought with themselves...something Norman did already. But if she didn't, he was dead.
Crying, she made a cut in her wrist with her vampire teeth and held it up to Norman*
"Take from me, quick, before you die."

*Norman heard her say something about dying. He wasn't dying, he thought. He was sleeping. He didn't want to wake up. But his weakness was no match for her strength, or the taste of her blood. As it touched his tongue, he became suddenly ravenous, his lips latching on to her wrist as he drew from her more powerfully than his weakened state would have suggested.*

*Weird, to be on this end of it. She didn't know what to expect, even if Maria had, and Norman's sudden strength surprised her. Soon, though, she started to feel the effects of the blood drain and gently pried her wrist away from Norman*
"All right, that's enough...it should work, now."

*It tasted like nothing he'd ever tasted before--not like blood, but like Life. He tasted moonlight and dancing and, weirdly enough, himself mirrored back to him.
He tasted darkness. And freedom.
When she pried him off he groped half-heartedly for her before he stiffened suddenly. It was as if a bandage was being peeled away, bit by bit, catching at the hair on his skin before finally being ripped away. He gasped, confused by the sudden need not to breath, the gradual stilling of his heart into silence.
The incredible depth of the sounds and scents around him now.
He looked up at Maria, an unfamiliar smile curling his lips.*

*She eyed him warily, fearful that she was right and that Norman had been irrevocably changed for the worse*
"Norman?" She asked hesitantly

*In answer, he rose and took her in his arms, pressing her against the wall to kiss her deeply and with abandon.*
"Yes, my love?"

*Icy fingers of guilt suddenly clutched at her heart. She'd been right. And that...that...VOICE had done this.*
I win anyway. So sad.
*But what if, maybe, it was just the newness of being a vampire? Maybe he just needed time to settle.
As she kissed him back, a part of her told her that she was fooling herself.*

*Norman drew back, his tongue running over his fangs. Everything felt... new. Bright and dark, clear and everlasting. He hadn't lived before now.
And that weight, that pressure in his chest had departed as if with his heartbeat.
He was free.*
"I'm hungry."

*She gave him a hesitant smile. This could work. Of course it could*
Fool.
"Of course you are...the transformation does that to a person. Where would you like to go searching for blood?"

*Norman grasped Maria's hand and brought it to his lips, kissing her fingers.*
"Weren't you going to teach me, in this as in all things?"

*She laughed, maybe a little too loudly*
"Absolutely. Well, we should head out into Paris--would be bad for business to dine on the customers."

*Norman nodded, as if thinking that over. She had a point. Even if it hadn't stopped him before.*
"Okay. The city, then."
*He offered his hand and opened the door.*

*Partly afraid and partly curious as to what was coming next, she took Norman's hand* "To Paris, and all it offers. "
