"No..." *She turned somewhat pink.* "I mean, the er... my head, and... the rock... the other day..." *Throughout all this she made useless hand gesticulations that weren't helping explain. She took a breath and started over.*
"Thank you, Mr. Blakeney, for carrying me back to the house when I hit my head." *She said, nodding affirmatively at the end to herself.*

"Oh. It wasn't any trouble. I mean...you...hit your head..." *he said lamely, not meeting her eyes.*

"Yes, well, if you hadn't been there I don't even know what kind of things could have happened and I certainly wouldn't be horseback riding already...."
*She took the currycomb and began running it over the horse's neck, turning pink.*

"I know what would have happened."
She would have come for you.
"..."
Maybe I should have let her fall asleep...
*He wondered if he'd have seen Teleute, or just felt her presence, or just had to trust and know that she was there.*

*But now Ellie was turning pink and running the comb over the horse's neck again, looking very much alive.*
"I shouldn't have climbed up in shoes. That's why I slipped. I wouldn't have slipped barefoot. It was stupid of me to wear shoes." *She said uselessly.*

"Mmm. Shoes. Yes. Very silly things," *he muttered absently, clearing his throat.*

*She had to move past him to go get the tack. Once she had it it didn't take her long to saddle the horse and start leading him out of the stable.*
"Come on, remember, we're partners in this..." *She murmured when the huge animal got antsy. They were oddly matched, the short, slender girl and the huge hunting horse. She slipped him some sugar, smiling as she patted his neck.*

*Tony squinted at her as she left before he began to wander back to the house. There was something weird about her.*

*She hauled herself onto the horse and off she went towards the ocean.*

***NEW DAY***
Alright, so maybe it wasn't advisable; but Sorcha couldn't see the true harm in going for a gentle ride for an hour or two on a pleasant afternoon, and, anyway, she had a good month before she was due, and she hadn't been back to Manderley for so long. It had been good to see her family, and Liam's--her family, as well, now, she supposed, though it seemed strange to think of it that way, even adoring the de Winters as she did.
Trying to keep her balance might be a challange, but she loved challanges. Like finding a riding costume to suit her massive abdomen--in the end, she'd hitched and belted the trousers as far up as they would go, and left the overlarge shirt (nicked from Liam's dresser) she wore untucked, managing to cover herself quite to the knees. She'd pulled on a jacket, despite the fair weather, and was forced to leave it unbuttoned, anyway. With her favourite cap and scarred tall boots, she looked rather more like a ragamuffin drunk than the young Mrs. de Winter.

*Not too long after, there was the sound of hoofs behind her--Liam on a chestnut hunter, looking bemused.*
"They allow humans to ride pregnant mares up until the last month before the foal is due, but I'm not sure the reverse applies."

Cocking a hand on her hip, she turned slowly to stare at him, a single eyebrow arched in question.
"...are you saying I'm no better than a horse?"

"How is it you always manage to make me say something I'm not saying?" *He raised his own eyebrow.*

"Because I'm smarter than you," she tossed back with a grin, adjusting the saddle on the placid gelding before she clambered onto the mounting block and heaved herself onto the back of the animal with a great deal of effort, very little thought as to how she might get back down, and absolutely NO grace.
Still, she fitted her boots into the stirrups and clicked her tongue, guiding the horse beside Liam's.
"...oh, come on," she said, catching his look. "I'll lose my mind if I spend another afternoon reading."

"Is that a slight on my parents' library?"
