*Holmes pulled himself together and released her--or rather, loosened his grasp. He might not have much time.*
"You were right, Irene. Ms. Adler. That's... not you. I have seen what the human brain can do, and I've never seen anything that would make a woman like you into... what I saw."
*He brushed a lock of hair back from her forehead.*
"I will do everything within my power to save you. To... reunite you with your husband. Can you tell me anything else about what happened to you?"

*She shook her head*
"I remember only being injected with drugs by the doctor. After that...it all becomes hazy."

*Holmes' mouth tightened.*
"Dr. Crane," *he said tartly.* "Ms. Adler, I will not leave you if you require my assistance further. But I wish to see this doctor as soon as possible. Can I do something to ease your discomfort before I go?"

"I- I think I'll be alright..."
*She took his hand*

*Holmes shook his head.*
"It is not your fault. And... it is my job. Regardless of what I might feel for you, or how it may affect me."

*She shook her head*
"No, it's not your job. No happy ending can come from this."
*She looked at him sadly*
"Forget me; go back to London. I'm bad luck."

"My own ending has never been of much concern to me," *he said grimly.* "But I have a duty to others; I cannot abandon you. I don't believe this is irreversible. Here you are; you are still in there somewhere, whoever is controlling you."
*His eyes darkened.*
"I have a very long memory."
