*Holmes looked around, but decided against calling anyone. More often than not, the people who ran these places were crooks. He crouched next to her cell, eyes fixed on her face.*
"Ms. Adler."

*She opened her eyes and looked at him- but somehow, the mind behind the eyes seemed different*
"She's out."
*She gave a sultry smirk*
"You'll have to make do with me."

*The only betrayal of Holmes' inner turmoil was a slight tightening of the lips.*
"And you are?"

*She stood, looking him up and down. Apparantly, she liked what she saw*
"I haven't been given a name as of yet. Would you like to try?"

*Holmes stood, looking down slightly at her.*
"Not particularly," *he said.* "Especially since I believe you are still Irene Adler."

"Of course I am- in a way. Split mind, but the same body..."
*She grinned, stepping closer to him*
"She has a nice one, I'll admit that."

*The corner of Holmes' left eye twitched.*
"Nevertheless, I think you should let her have it."
*He was by no means convinced of this "split mind" theory, except in its most abstract sense. This was Irene--damaged, and trouble. She was far too good for this.*

"Let her have it? Where's the fun in that?"
*Even her voice sounded different*
"There are others I could give it to- you wouldn't be bad."

*A flush he hoped was not visible rushed through him. He would not be able to help her if he could not control his own reactions.*
"Madame. I believe I know Ms. Adler well enough to tell that you are acting in a most uncharacteristic manner. I need you to tell me what happened--why this happened."

"But that would spoil the mystery."
*She reached her hand through the bars and touched his hat playfully*
"You call yourself a detective. Don't you know that no mystery is complete without a sinful woman?"

*Now Holmes grimaced.*
"I solve mysteries because they exist, and because I can use my particular abilities to render them helpless. Not because I like them."
*He arched an eyebrow at her.*
"I must deduce that you do not wish to be cured. This aspect of you, at any rate."

"No sh*t, Sherlock. Literally, haha."
*She clapped mockingly*
"Not bad for a beginner."

*His eyes hardened.*
"This new field of 'psychology' is not my forte. And find it inconceivable that anyone as lovely as Irene Adler should want to be anyone else."
*He leaned in close to the bars.*
"I will fight you."

"Of course you will."
*She batted her eyelashes coyly*
"But I know someone who won't..."

"She was right about you," *Holmes said quietly. Looking at this woman... at her but not her... It was killing him.* "You belong here."
