*Erik lugged Megan out of the cab (tipping the driver handsomely) and up the steps of the asylum. With him he had a small case of her things. He stood at the door and rang the buzzer.*

Fogg leaned outside.
"Yes?"

*Erik did his best to look dismayed and frazzled. And to avoid using his own name.*
"Monsieur, I am sorry to trouble you on this fine day. But I'm at my wit's end, and I can't think where else to go. My wife... she has gone quite insane."

((Oh, so NOW she's your wife?))
"Pity," said Fogg, barely surpressing a smile. "Do come inside."

(("I'm here to commit the unwilling mother of my child" didn't have the same ring to it.))
*Erik nodded his thanks and followed, bringing Megan with him. It didn't look like he'd have much trouble. And, he reassured himself, she'd be quite comfortable here.*

"What seems to be the problem?" asked Fogg, sitting down and steepling his fingers.

"She seems intent upon leaving me, and taking our daughter with her. But when I ask her to reconsider, to tell me her problems, to talk, she becomes violent and unmanageable. She will not listen to reason and seems completely insensible of the love our girl and I bear each other. And she has no provision for the future, either for herself or our child. Tell me; can a wife like that be allowed to have her way?"

Fogg made a small sympathetic clicking noise.
"Dear me. Women and their bizarre fancies. I'm sure you are a fine father."

*Erik frowned.*
"Though it pains me to say it, I do believe that the child and I can get along well enough without her. While she is recovering, that is."

"One may hope for that, but, sadly, many of my children here are lost in their madness forever. I pray that she shall not be one of them."
In spite of what he was saying, Fogg still appeared to be nearly smiling. He took down a small note of the young woman's particular hair color and waited for the man to respond.

*Erik made himself look stricken.*
"I had not thought the condition might be permanent."

"A dreadful tragedy for you and the child both. What is your wife's name?"

*He didn't see any reason to like about it. On the other hand... It would make her seem that much more crazy when she came to and didn't answer.*
"Joanna," *he said, the name coming to him suddenly.*

Fogg winced briefly, touching his shoulder.
"Johanna what?"

*Erik had not thought of having a last name in years.*
"Sorry. It's Joanna Vernet. I'm Emile Vernet."
Stupid. That's a painter. Where is your head, Erik?
