*She raised an eyebrow. Unless it was with her parents, she wasn't one to back down from a fight.* Interesting.
((*jumps up and down* I GOT IT IN THERE!))

"Katie, please, I don't want to offend you or anything. Besides, it's a fight that was lost years ago. We don't need to continue it. That's what reenactors do."

*She cocked her head slightly, studying his face. She looked ready to say something snappy, but then Scarlett squealed again and she automatically started rocking her and cooing to her.*

Fitz hieved a sigh of relief. One thing he had learned from his father: never contradict a Confederate sympathizer.

*She kept her attention on Scarlett, not bothering to look up.* What is it, Fitz?

He groaned. "Could we just drop it, please?"

Nope. *She smiled down at Scarlett, who gurgled cutely back up at her.* What did you want to say, Fitz?

"You said something about the graces of the South, and I started thinking of something sarcastic to say about it, but I didn't want to because I knew it would make you angry," he answered in surrender.

*She still didn't look up.* What could you possibly say sarcastically about the South? It's a wonderful place.

He looked down. "Well, there's... slavery. Or secession." Or cousin-on-cousin action.

((*facepalm* The sad thing is, my second cousins are second cousins of each other, and they're married. But they live in Bama, so... ;D Not that there's anything wrong with people from Alabama. They just aren't as cool as us Georgians. ;D))
*She finally glanced up at him, one perfect eyebrow slightly raised.* And?

"Well, slavery is demeaning and brutal, and you've already heard my opinions about secession."

Oh, Fitz. *She looked back down at the baby with a dismissive air.*

"I warned you," he muttered. "Katie, please, you know how much I love you."

*She glanced up again, looking faintly surprised.* I'm not angry, Fitz. I really don't care. I mean...you weren't there, were you? So you don't really know how it is in the South. Which...please don't take this the wrong way...makes your opinion of the South, in my opinion, something that can be...disregarded. No offense. *She looked back down at the baby, tickling her tiny feet.*
