Hallie was sitting on the floor in the front room, her back against one of the bookshelves. She had her earbuds fit securely in her ears and was reading a first edition of Pride and Prejudice to the sweet strains of the Beatles White Album. Clara was at school, and she was happy to have a nice opportunity to relax and forget things for a while.

Hallie looked up and pulled an earbud out.
"Hey, I know you! You're Megan, right?"

"Yes, why?"

She put the book back on it's shelf, stood up and held out her hand to shake.
"I'm Hallie, Clara Booth's mother."

"Clara..."
Megan frowned and looked apologetic.
"I'm sorry. I know I know the name..."

"Oh! Little Cosette, yes? I feel so stupid now. She and I had that scene together and everything."

"It's been a long few years."

She nodded.
"I know what you mean. Let's put it this way: I'm not at this bookshop to browse. I live here for my own good."

"Raped you? Honey, did you go to the police?"

She grimaced.
"The police aren't enough to stop this guy."
