"Well, a store looks better than a storage space. And I do sell some books. Sometimes. I wouldn't say I get a salary, but money is never a problem."

*Kris nodded.*
"That must be nice. What's the catch? I mean, to being an angel?"

"The catch? Honestly, I don't think there is one. My job is to help people, of course, and thwart evil, but that's in my nature. I would say that I have to obey the orders from Up There, but I hardly ever receive any."

*Kris considered this.*
"Hmm. That sounds like a pretty good deal. Way better than being an atheist robot with silly hair."
*She sighed.*

**POSTING AS AZIRAPHALE**
"There are far worse things you could be, trust me. And your hair doesn't look silly."

*Kris beamed*
"Really? Thanks! About the robot thing, too. I guess you're right."
*She looked around the shop.*
"So if you're so into books... you got a favorite or two?"

"I have a soft spot for Oscar Wilde," *he admitted.* "I collect first editions of his."

"Oh, I love Oscar Wilde!" *Kris said.* "Haven't met him yet, and I'm sure I'm not clever enough to be interesting, but I do love Dorian Gray."

((Haha!))
"It's one of my favorites. It probably shouldn't be, given the nature of my job, but..." *he shrugged lightly.*

"Pfft," *Kris said succinctly.* "At least it speaks well of the world, that it's okay for you to love it. I mean, I'd hate to live in a world where that's a problem."

"You make an excellent point, my dear," *he said with a smile.*

"Well. There's that theological chasm spanned."

"Indeed," *he said.*
"What about you? Do you have a favorite book?"

*Kris blushed. She wondered if, now that she knew she wasn't human, she could turn that subroutine off or something.*
"Well... There's books I think are good, and books I like more than others in spite of myself," *she said.* "It's kind of embarrassing. My favorite books are all... kind of trashy."
*Her eyes widened.*
"Not, like, sex-trashy. I mean, not great works or whatever. Like, Susan Kay's Phantom, which I know is bad but still love because it influenced me. And Robin McKinley's Beauty. And Philip K. Dick, and Tanith Lee, and... Well, I really like Jane Austen and Vladimir Nabokov, too. I guess they're legit."

((Beauty and Phantom are sitting on my bookcase right across from me. <3 ))
*He smiled warmly.*
"Wonderful! I certainly understand how certain books can be guilty pleasures. We can't allways read and enjoy great literature. An upsetting amout of great classics, I've found, tend to be stuffy and boring.*
