((Why I do believe that rhymes.))
*Cal was wandering Paris when it started to rain, still not having found a place to stay that was within budget. She was carrying her suitcase, which slowed her down, and was pretty much soaked when she walked up to the ostentatious castle and knocked on the door with a ridiculously dramatic doorknocker. She was looking for an umbrella.*
Jesus, what kind of eccentrics live here?

*Having finally settled down, or as much as was possible for a lone vampire in a giant castle, Krolock had very little to do and wasn't bothered by visitors when they did drop in.
He answered the knock, finding the soaking wet girl outside his door*
"What in the--? You poor dear, why don't you come inside?"
*He stood back, so she could pass if she took the invitation*

*She stared at him dubiously for a second.*
"Um, could I have an umbrella?" *She asked. She wouldn't have entered even if he didn't look creepy--she didn't tend to trust people she didn't know when they invited her into places she wasn't familiar with.*

*He raised an eyebrow at her*
"I have no idea if there's an umbrella in this place. There could be one in a dusty corner somewhere..."
*He let the sentence trail off. It'd been ages since he'd done a tour of the entire estate*

"You don't know if you ha.... nevermind. Can I wait the storm out here, then?" *She asked. Screw getting kidnapped by strange old men, she hated rain.*

"Of course."
*He gestured toward the dry, and surprisingly warm, interior. Though perhaps a bit dark*

*She entered, dragging the rather massive suitcase behind her.*
"Yeah, sorry 'bout the suitcase, I'm trying to get to Paris, but the coach only took me this far."

*He waved that away*
"Not a worry. It is more important that you get in out of the rain."
*Once she was inside, he closed the door, making the interior even darker.*
"Wait here."
*He moved off, looking for a match to light a candelabra. The girl wouldn't be able to see anything without it*

*She looked around. This was weird. And dark.*

*He returned shortly with a three-pronged candelabra, all three candles lit*
"Apologies for the darkness--I am the only one at home and I often forget to light a few candles."
*Though, in point of fact, he could see in the dark*

((This is suddenly reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast.))
"So you... live here? Alone?" *She asked, not quite believing him. It looked like something out of a gaudy Opera, and the whole setup was just kind of wierd.*

((Hahaha))
"As of late, yes. I had quite a few servants and houseguests once, and my son. They all seem to have disappeared, I'm afraid."

"That kind of sucks." *She said. She wasn't used to tempering her tongue, exactly, and it did suck that his son had disappeared.* "My dad pretty much left me here while he travels in Asia."

((You shouldn't say suck to a vampire. )) "I'm sorry to hear that, my dear. I hope you weren't left in dire straights?" *He closed the door and began to head into the foyer, expecting her to follow*

((...))
*She followed him.*
"No, not dire. Just dire enough to necessitate me finding a job." *She explained.* "Which is why I was headed to Paris."
*After saying this, she sneezed form all the dust.*
