*Chuck got out of his carriage and sauntered inside. He waited in the foyer in a tailor made (was there any other kind?) black tuxedo jacket and perfectly shined shoes. His hair was gelled back handsomely. In his hands was a jewelry box. Who knew? Maybe she'd be looser tonight.*

*It didn't take long for Adrienne to appear at the top of the stairs, a vision swathed in custom-made green brocade. No self-respecting debutante bought anything ready-to-wear. A fitted, black satin glove rested delicately on the polished wood banister as she descended gracefully down the stairs, her long skirts giving her the illusion of floating. The chandelier cast light that reflected off of her jewels, scattering fractions of light across her already-pale skin. Tendrils of dark hair rested on silky porcelain cheeks.*
*She definitely knew how to dress herself.*

*An eyebrow ticked upwards as she descended. He had been to many formal functions back home but this was hard to beat. Only one could have beaten what he saw standing in front of him... but he vehemently shoved that thought to the back of his mind.*
"My, my, don't you clean up nice," *he said sarcastically. Sarcastic because, in truth, she always looked fabulous.*

*She grabbed her skirts and sunk into a curtsey.*
"We're looking very dapper this evening." *She said, eyeing him as she rose.*

*He couldn't help but sneak a look as she lowered herself. He liked what he saw.* "I always do," *he replied smugly as he took her hand and kissed it.* "You know... I brought a little something as a peace offering since we didn't exactly get off one the right foot but," *he eyed her jewels.* "I can see that you're already well lit tonight." *Regardless, he opened the jewelry case. Inside was a Harry Winston, 10 carat diamond bracelet.* "May I?" *he offered.*

*Jewels. He couldn't possibly have heard that jewels were her weakness... she just loved jewelry. And the way it would contrast with her glove... she almost gave him some modest 'I couldn't', but decided against it. He had good taste. She couldn't help it.*
*She extended her hand.*
"Thank god I didn't wear the off-white gloves."

"Not even a thank you? What would your father say?" *he chided jokingly as he clasped the bracelet on her slender wrist. Once he was done, he light touched the jewel affectionately.*
*He snapped the jewelry case shut.*
"One more carat on you and you'd blind the guests."

"The women might go into throes of jealousy. Watch out when we walk in." *She warned.* "Lady LeGris was angling after my father a few years ago--she'll be mad enough to spit when she sees the family emeralds."
*Then her face softened.* "But thank you. It is a lovely piece."

"You're quite welcome," *he said in a low voice.*
"And don't worry. I've got some moves."
*He offered her his arm and together they exited the foyer. Outside, an elegant black carriage drawn by two white horses waited them. Chuck went ahead, opened the door and offered his hand.*
"After you."

*Once inside, he tapped the roof twice and they were off.*
