*Emily dragged Nadir into a crouch and fought the urge to box his ears. She tugged off the ring, appearing again, a weary-looking young woman in blue jeans, a light brown sweater, ponytail and a floury apron.*
"Oh...it's you," *panted Nadir with weary relief.
The look she gave him quickly assured him that the REAL pain had only just started.*
"What the HELL were you thinking?"
*She slapped him sharply, leaving a streak of flour on his face.*

"NEVER. EVER. DO ANYTHING. SO STUPID. AGAIN. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?"
*she realized she was screaming and turned away, resting her back against the rock and breaking into hysterical sobs.*
Fucking hormones.
"Don't...don't...don't think th-that I-I'm crying because I'm r-relieved," *she stuttered.* "Y-you're c-CANON an' I d-dunno how I'd b-bring you back f-from the d-dead r-right n-now. I've got a l-lot on m-my plate, r-right noooow..."
*She subsided a little still sobbing rather uncontrollably but with an expression of grim determination to wait out the storm of her own emotions, so Nadir wasn't overly concerned that she was so truly upset.*
"It was wrong of me," *he said slowly, rubbing a hand across his face and realizing he'd just smeared the flour everywhere.*

*Gradually, she stopped crying and wiped her face on her sleeve. Glancing around, she got to her feet, brushing the dirt off the bum of her jeans from sitting on the ground.*
"You, get back to the palace and just...try to get along with things. I'll do what I can to make things easier for you. Nadir, I--" *She faced him and took his hands in hers, helping him stand up as he was still sore from taking a blow.* "I'm sorry. I haven't been paying the attention I should have to your situation. I've been...busy...in the garden...in the kitchen..."
In denial.
"I know it's no excuse, but...I AM sorry. And things will be better from now on. I promise."
*With an encouraging smile she patted him on the cheek where she'd slapped him minutes earlier and turned to go.*
"...where will you go?" *asked Nadir quietly.*
"...back to where I was. Don't you worry--I'll keep an eye on things."
*She waited until Nadir had gone his own way before she slid the ring back onto her finger and began walking back to the little cottage that sat just on the other side of the same hill that held Genghis' sprawling camp. Set back amongst the trees, grey stone and covered in vines, it was hardly noticible, and she preferred it that way. No one bothered her and she was free to live as she chose.*
