As Madame Dahlia closed the door behind her, an appreciative smile still lit up Victoria's face. The girl couldn't believe her luck. In a matter of hours, she had found a job and a home where she wouldn't have to worry about her next meal.
The girl twirled around in circles until she was dizzy and flopped down on the four poster bed. Her eyelids grew heavy and Victoria fought with difficulty to keep them open but ultimately, failed. She fell into a deep and dreamless sleep.

Evie bounced up to the new girls room and knocked on the door. "Open up new girl!" she said

Victoria was jolted awake by the sharp rapping. "Huh?" Sleepily rubbing her eyes, she shuffled to the door and opened it. Instantly, the expression on her face brightened.
"Oh, hi. Evie, right?"

"Gee, how did you know?" Evie asked sarcastically "I make it my job to make the new girls feel welcomed." she said

"You certainly have made me feel welcome, and I thank you, Evie," Victoria said kindly.
"I believe this is the only place that I've felt most at home. Others just can't compare."

"Well, I've only been here for a little while, but so far, it's great!" Evie said

Victoria grinned. "That's wonderful! I'm positive I'll enjoy it here, too."
She slowly traced a pattern on the wood of the door, picking her words with care.
"I apologize beforehand if it's too personal, but what led you to work here? There is no need to answer if you don't wish to. I'm simply curious."

"Ah, same here," Victoria replied. After a few moments of hesitation, she added, "And I desperately needed a place to recollect my senses and pull myself together."
Without being conscious of it, tears began to well in her startlingly green eyes.
