*Sylvia caressed Virginia’s cheek lightly.*
“I am so proud of you. Your diligence to your studies is truly astounding. In no time at all, you’ll be commanding 100 francs, maybe more. You will be able to help so many.”
*She turned her face back to the ceiling.*
“You are very inspiring. I only hope to be able to continue to encourage you. I might even learn something new myself.”

*Virginia laughed at this.*
"What could I possibly have to teach you? How many beads go on a rosary?"

I already know that.
*Sylvia smiled gently.*
“You just have so much hope. I am looking forward to sharing some of it. Perhaps it will rekindle my own.”

*Virginia looked at Sylvia with surprise and pity.*
"Why should you have lost hope? When you have all this, and a life you love, helping others? You have so much to be thankful for...and to give you hope..."

*Sylvia looked at Virginia with a hint of sadness. Then she forced a soft smile and caressed Virginia’s cheek.*
“You are right. I have much to be thankful for. Sometimes it is just too easy for me to focus on what I have lost along the way.”
*Her smile became more genuine.*
“Besides, now you are here as well. Everything will be wonderful, I can tell.”
*She winked playfully.*

*Virginia laughed.*
"You place too much merit on my presence here. At this rate I'm certain to disappoint."

*Sylvia’s eyes lowered.*
“I don’t mean to pressure you. I really don’t mean to place expectations on you. It’s just…you remind me, of me. A long time ago.”
Someone I could have been.
*She smiled.*
"Should I go check on lunch? I don't want to taint you with melancholy before Nicolas gets to meet you."

*Virginia hid her pity and reverted to light frivolity, as it seemed to bring Sylvia some kind of comfort to not talk about these things.*
"If you like..." *she said gently.*

*Sylvia smiled and pushed herself up. She looked at Virginia for a moment, smiling sweetly before standing. She opened the wardrobe and pulled out a relatively plain blue dress, although still low cut and provocative. She slipped the robe off her shoulders and hung it, replacing it with the dress. It fitted over her form nicely. Freeing her hair from it and rearranging the locks in a loose cascade down her back she turned back to Virginia with a smile.*
“Do you want me to ask for anything in particular?”

*Virginia shook her head.*
"I've no preferances. Whatever is available will suit, I'm sure."

*Sylvia turned to the door. As she opened it, she nearly ran into Edouard who was smiling sheepishly with his hands full of plates. He spoke playfully.*
“Ah, thank you my lady. You must have read my mind. I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to do that myself.”
*He entered and set the plates on a tray and brought them over to the bed, offering them to Virginia with a coy smile.*
“I hope that it pleases you. They seemed to be a little behind with lunch, so I just grabbed whatever I could find.”
*The array was vast and rather odd. Mostly fruit and bread, there were a few cuts of cold meat, some cheeses and a bit of chocolate cake.*
“He stretched out on the bed next to her like a cat, smiling contentedly.*
“Tell me you love it. Tell me it’s just what you wanted.”

*Virginia had to grin at his irrepressible spirit.*
"It is quite fine, thank you," *she said, selecting a peach slice and biting into it with relish.*

*Edouard brow rose slightly as he looked up to her.*
“Fine? Just fine? I suppose I’ll have to try harder then if I’m going to win your undying devotion.”
*Sylvia rolled her eyes and walked over the bed. She sat on the other side of him and smacked his backside sharply. He gasped playfully and glanced at her as though she shouldn’t be so hard on him, but his crooked smile gave him away. She lifted her brow coolly as she spoke.*
“There will be none of that. Let her eat in peace.”
*She smiled up to Virginia.*
“We can’t be exhausting her, not if there will be further lessons today.”

*Virginia smirked at Edouard.*
"Let's just say you still owe me a favour, then."
*She fed him a grape.*
"Or else one might be in danger of spoiling you."

*He smiled wickedly at the proposition.*
“You can collect whenever you’d like.”
*Sylvia cleared her throat and he looked back to her. Her words were bittersweet.*
“Wasn’t some of that for Nicolas? He’ll need his strength too, after all.”
*Edouard slid back up to his knees and pouted a moment before take a plate and walking back to the wall and lifting a secret latch to reopen the door. He disappeared through it and the door became a wall again. Sylvia’s attentions turned to Virginia.*
“Are you sure you are up for more studies? We can always do it later.”
