*He allowed Mira and Moreau to enter the room first before following them in and closing the door, carefully locking it. He watched Moreau casually wander over to a table and set his hat and cane upon it.
Victor pulled out three of the chairs in the room, arranging them in a semi-circle*
"I think we should sit, for this."

*Mira sat down warily, her hands in her lap. Part of her was undoubtedly frightened, but still...she'd always loved old horror movies, and now she was finally in one.*

*Seemingly indifferent to the current of emotions in the room, Moreau casually sat down in one of the offered chairs. He waited until Victor was seated before speaking*
"You wanted to know what I have created. People. Not like you or I, or even what it is rumored you made, Doctor Frankenstein."
*Victor visibly twitched at the mention of the creature. Moreau had to hide a smile. Whatever happened there, he wondered?*
"Half-man, half-animal, I have made. Several of them. I'm afraid a recent accident dictated that I've lost most of my children. But some of them have come to France with me."

*Mira said nothing, knowing the creatures had rebelled against their master. Had some of them come with him willingly, as slaves did when they had nowhere else to go and no other way to live, or had they been shoved into crates kicking and screaming?*

*He was leaning forward, listening intently*
"But how? How could you create such a thing? Unless..."
*His mind was working swiftly, and he did not see the curious--and equally intent--look he got from Moreau.
Victor snapped his fingers*
"Of different parts, like mine. Animal and man..."

*Moreau was all smiles now. He recognized in Victor that zeal for discovery that he himself had*
"Yes. Though, I do not wait until they are dead. Merely grafted what I wanted to the original subject. An amalgam of all the best of both worlds, put into one body."

*Mira could not manage to stop herself from speaking at this point*
"These creatures...how do they respond to the experiments?"
How can you torture them like that?

*Victor looked rather disturbed by this, and nodded at Mira's question*
"Yes. And I would hope they are not conscious when you do the...grafts?"

"Of course they are not conscious when I operate." *He lied.
Of course, they WERE...the horrible screaming as they tried to escape their restraints was always music to his ears*
"And I try as best I can to gently introduce them to their existence. They are rather disoriented, of course, when they first come to."
Or, come back from pain.
"I call them my children for a reason. I raise them, teach them, and they love me as I love them."

*Mira couldn't help flinching at the implications*
"I see. Do they grow more like beasts or men, once they've gotten used to things?"
((She's probably going to end up doing something really sappy and sueish, like singing to the creatures and being their only source of comfort...))

*Victor was of two minds about Moreau and his experiments. On the one hand, he could see the incredible breakthrough it was and the possibilities it could bring. On the other, he could see the possible abuse that would come with it. Which side of it did Moreau see?
He waited for the other man to answer Mira, wondering at Moreau's true motives.*

((Awww. The creatures would appreciate somebody that's not Moreau who doesn't scream or freak out at the sight of them))
*Moreau wondered what was going on in Victor's head--the other scientist was obviously thinking something over.*
"There is no set pattern, I'm afraid. Some seem more beastlike than others, while there are those of my children that are far more human in outlook. Neither trait seems to coincide with appearance, either."

((Sue!Me has a soft spot for monsters.))
"Wh-what happens to the ones that are- faliures?"
*She wasn't sure she wanted to know*

*Moreau noticed that Victor's searching gaze had now intensified at Mira's question. It gave Moreau pause, but only for a moment*
"Sadly, madame, a majority go mad or slowly die as their bodies reject the new additions that have been. In such cases, it is a mercy to end their sad exitence rather than let them continue on that way."
**VICTOR**
*Victor heaved a sigh, shaking his head*
"Horrible. I can't imagine how they feel, if they are sane enough to realize what has happened."

"Doesn't it give you pause? I mean, about continuing your experiments."
