"Oh my..." *Brandi sighed and forced herself to sitting.* "Well, I'm sure we'll find a way to manage." *She smiled back at him, genuinely believing it after the recent progress made. She slipped off the bed and found a simple dress. She tugged the nightgown over her head, back to Cry-Baby as she slid the new garment on easily. Turning back to him, her arms reached behind her to tug the lacings.*
"You just don't take too long, k? I think I might be gettin' spoiled into seeing you more often."

Cry-Baby stretched languidly after watching the fetching sight of Brandi dressing with no ill effects. Which wasn't to say no effect at all.
"Be right down," he assured her. "Wouldn't miss waffles, now, would I?"

*Brandi grinned, approaching his side of the bed.*
"It's all about the proper motivation, eh?" *She leaned down and kissed him, then unexpectedly lifted the sheets for a playful peek.*
"Figure you might want some pants for it though." *She giggled, dropping the covers.*
This isn't the Mors.
*She started to the door, looking back once reaching it.*
"Not that I don't enjoy the view as is."
*With that, she slipped out into the hall and down to the kitchen.*

Cry-Baby stared after her, not a little tempted to keep her there for a few minutes (or hours), but in the end chuckling and grabbing his jeans.
This was even better than he remembered. If only he could keep from screwing up again.

***NEW DAY, AFTER CRY-BABY'S DISAPPEARANCE***
*The inn had been much quieter the last few days. There was no one in the kitchen preparing the meals, no one tending bar or hauling laundry about. Food was still available and somehow the linens still found themselves clean, but it certainly hadn’t been at Brandi’s hands. Dust bunnies started to nest in the darker corners of the inn.
The door to Brandi’s room was shut. She sat inside; the bed she’d only recently been able to share again was littered with texts and ancient pages. Brandi hunkered amiss them, her hair frazzled and her face showing long hours of work and no sleep. There had to be a way. And she was damn well gonna find it.*

He hadn't meant to be gone as long as he had been. But because of the nature of his usual contacts, it was hard to track them down even at the best of times, when they didn't want to be found it was a bitch to hunt them down. He'd dug up some interesting information on Dracula, and though he hadn't been looking for it he'd also heard a bit about the problems that had plagued Brandi in the past (including pass harassments by Dracula).
It just made him want to go right back to the Le Rouge even more. Reluctantly, though, he'd finished his investigations and returned to find the inn feeling rather desolate and empty. With a worried crease on his forehead, he'd gone wandering about looking for Brandi hadn't found her anywhere out and about, which left one last place.
Finally, he knocked on the door to her room.
"Brandi, love? Are you in?"

“Come in.” *Brandi answered without thought, vaguely gesturing at the door as if it would assist him in. She didn’t look up, just shifted some pages on the bed, as if that would suddenly make sense of things.*
“What do you need?” *She asked flatly, not so much rude as very distracted.*
“Linens? Milk? A room?” *It was almost as if she couldn’t really process her environment at the moment. The world was only a suggestion outside her bed and books.*

Taking in the state of the room, and her distracted demeanor, his expression turned to one of concern.
"Was looking just for you, love. I'd been on another information hunt."

"Oh. Uh..." *Brandi shifted the heavy tome off her lap and squiggled to face him. Her hand lifted to brush her loosed hairs back from her face. By the looks of things, she hadn't done much else in some time.*
"Uh huh? So what's up?" *There was a casual air to her detachment, but she was interested. He might know something. Something to help her get to her baby.*

He walked over, wanting to sit next to her but not sure enough of the situation to try it. Instead, he opted for leaning against the nearby dresser.
"I mostly dug up stuff about Dracula, since he's so popular." He rolled his eyes.
"There's not a lot on what his recent activities have been, but quite a few things he's done in past people still talk about. A huge mess in Romania, for one, and of course the original story. But he's also been mucking about in Hungary."

"Oh." *Brandi's mouth shut with a soft pop. Him again. Right. And Raziel. And her.*
"Uh, ok. So...umm..." *Her lashes fluttered as she struggled to make sense of it.*
"Is he going to...do anything in the near future?" *She asked.* "Cause I have to figure out how to get to War's dimension." *It was a non sequitur, but it was foremost on her mind (obviously).*
"I mean, I can't just leave him there. It should have been me." *She stated plainly, though the cracks at the edge were showing.* "It was supposed to be me."

"He has something planned that involves you, but I can't find anyone that knows anything. I know it's bad to think it, but I almost wish he'd try something now so we don't have to sit around waiting for the axe to fall."
At her last words, he moved forward, though he paused halfway to her.
"What do you mean? Did something happen while I was gone?"

*Her lips twitched at his question and she blinked in answer.*
"But he...I thought you...you knew, right? He's gone. They're gone. All of them."
*Her eyes fell to her lap and her fingers rubbed against each other as she shrugged. Then she started to babble.*
"I was here, but then he wasn't. They were all gone but he left me a note and I found it but there wasn't anything I could do. I tried finding War, but he's gone and I tried Valhalla, but the sergeant isn't there and so I had to come back here to find a way. There has to be a way because it's not supposed to be him. He can't handle it there. I...I..."
*Her head was bouncing a little as she lifted her eyes up to his. The corners glinted with potential tears.*
"I have to save him." *She whispered.*

Shit.
"Godamn...War..."
Finally, he did sit next to her, putting a comforting arm around her shoulders. There wasn't much more he could do.
"I didn't even realize...I'm sorry, I should have been more focused on this place and not just on Dracula."
Was he taking blame? Well, he could technically be blamed, for not paying more attention and trying to interefere with whatever had been happening. He'd been rather off his game for a long time now.
"Brandi--is...is there any kind of loophole? Anything?"

*Brandi didn't shun his touch, seemingly content to be held. She felt numb. But as his question sank in, she squirmed away from him, twisting her body back to the books.*
"There has to be, right? Place like this...some sort of...shift...portal...Nexus..." *She didn't have much to go on outside of that. She froze for a moment, trying to pull something that was just beyond her grasp. Then she turned sharply back to the angel.*
"Dracula. You said there was news? What did you find out?" *Man, she was even more scatterbrained than normal.*
