*Death brought them up in Le Rouge et L'Epine on the far side of the veil. Here it was as Faye had kept it in life, although now she served only the dead and others that had means to get there. He released Erik and looked around, noting that it was relatively empty.*
"Hmm...must be a slow night."

*Erik suppressed a shiver as they materialized in what looked like an inn or tavern.*
"Where are we?"

"The place is called Le Rouge et L'Epine. Run by a nice girl named Faye. A nice dead girl that is. It's a safe place for those of us that tend to make the humans...anxious."
*Death smiled and gestured to a table.*

*Erik sat, still looking about curiously.*
"A dead girl, you say? Ghost or vampire?"
*It was nice. How had he not known about this? Was it possible, he could have ventured out before now? Had his exile been self-imposed?*

*Death answered genially.*
"Ghost. Those sometimes she gets body-fied. It's strange. But she's nice and a hard worker."
*He looked around, finding no one.*
"Just don't know where she is at the moment. I hope she won't mind if we get started without her. It's not as if I would run out on the bill, you know?"
*He started towards the bar.*
"What would you like?"

*Erik had encountered many strange things recently; an inn run by a ghost was on the understandable side at this point.*
"Any Tokay wine?"

"Hmm..."
*Death crouched behind the bad looking.*
"Doesn't look like it. Anything similar?"

((You're gonna make *me* talk about alcohol? The straight edge?))
*Erik sighed.*
"Brandy would be fine," *he said.*

((Sorry, didn't mean to. )) *Death nodded and pulled out a bottle and two glasses, making his way over to the table. He smiled and poured them both a drink. He lowered his head shyly, his voice quiet.* "It's funny...I never expected that I would be doing something like this with anyone...especially with you. It's just...to have something to do that's not directly about work...it's pretty amazing." *He handed Erik a glass.*

*Faye came wandering, practically floating. She took up a rag and began to polish some glasses, humming a tune to herself.*

((Anyone else beginning to think that Death and Erik are going to need a room soon?))

((I was just kidding--because I never know what to order since I just don't happen to drink.))
*Erik glanced at Death over his brandy.*
"Erik thought you were married. Does your wife not enjoy things... other than work?"
((Can we see Faye? Or is that for me to decide?))

*Death looked suddenly bashful and lowered his head and voice.*
"Yes...I mean...of course. Just...not so much recently. Things have been...complicated."
I sleep on the couch most of the time.
"I end up alone much of the time."

*Erik frowned, a reaction both to his ungentlemanly prodding and Death's answer.*
"I am sorry," *he said.* "Erik is not much used to company; he can sometimes speak out of turn. But it seems to me a dreadful thing to be alone, when it is not necessary."

*Death shrugged lightly.*
"Sometimes it can't be helped. It's like her player has a life or something. It can be hard, but when we're together..."
*He paused before he continued softer. He didn't want to flaunt his experience with love in front of a longterm bachelor like Erik.*
"It's worth it."
