*Faye trailed behind him, her heart aching to see again the place she'd first encountered Aimery.*

Richard looked around; the inn was empty.
"So much for the plan," he said dryly.
He turned around to look at Faye.
"Well, what now?"

*Faye shrugged lightly.*
"Can I get you anything to eat or drink? Or would you prefer to have a room?" *she slipped into her hostess habits easily, as usual forgetting that food and drink and rest had no sway with those already dead.*

Richard glanced around for a moment.
"This is the longest I've gone continuously embodied," he announced. "I'm sorry if you were expecting a night of long discussions and commiseration, but I would really like to lay down for a while."

*Faye shook her head.*
"I expect nothing," *she said quietly.* "You are a guest in my inn--if anything I must entertain you and see to your comfort above all things. If you wish to rest, then rest."
*She led him upstairs to a small but comfortable room under the eves of the house.*
"If you need anything, I'll be downstairs," *she said, turning to go back down the creaking staircase.*

"Miss La- I mean, Faye..."

*She glanced back over her shoulder.*
"Sire?"

"Are you going to be all right tonight?'

*Faye managed a nod.*
"I've always been able to get by. Troubles pass, always. I'm certain this will be no different."

"Would you like to..."
Richard's voice broke off. He couldn't believe what he was saying; it was like he was eighteen all over again. That, combined with the guilt nagging at the back of his mind...
"Would you like to come upstairs?"

*Faye cocked her head to the side, confused.*
"...I am upstairs."
*She held out her hands, palm up.*
"Do you need anything? Is there something I can get you?"

Richard looked at her a little desperately and chastized himself under his breath for even thinking it.
"No..." he said faintly.

*Faye's brow furrowed, but she nodded.*
"If you're sure... Goodnight, your majesty."
*She bobbed a slight curtsey and went downstairs to the front room, sitting in the chair before the cold grate that held the dead ashes of the fire Aimery had built only days earlier, only now it all seemed so far away.*

Richard retreated into his room, sat down on the bed, and allowed himself to fall backward until he was laying down.
"You stop this right now," he told himself. "You hear me? STOP IT."
Out of habit, he shoved a hand into his hair in frustration, only to realize he had already forgotten that Faye had cut it. Curious, he sat up again and looked around for a mirror until his eyes settled on the vanity table set up in the corner.
"Good Lord!"
Between his newly cropped hair and his new suit of clothes, Richard didn't recognize himself. The idea was a little daunting- he had looked pretty much the same for centuries until now.
Fat lot of good it did him, too. Bored, he decided to go back downstairs for a drink.
