*Hannibal arched his brow.*
"You feel like you would hurt the employees of a facility? Or that they simply can't sure what you have?"

How to make him understand? He was fairly certain no man of science would believe him--no matter how true his situation was.
"I have another condition," he said. "It's related, but I don't think they're equipped to deal with it in those... in the institution." His throat worked as he remembered. "Either I'll hurt someone, or they'll kill me. Maybe that'd be best, anyway."

Interesting...
"So you think it is better for you to be out in the open? Where you might attack more easily and without consequence?"
*The tone of Hannibal's voice never changed, gliding smoothly towards the boy in the chair.*

Norman started at the words, the sting no less for the smoothness of the delivery.
"No," he said hoarsely. "No, I... I should be put away. Except I'm too dangerous... I should die. But I'm too afraid."

*Hannibal glanced from the patient to the door behind him and back.*
"You want to die? But...it's fear that stops your hand?"
*His eyes narrowed slightly.*
"You don't have some other reason? Something that perhaps is grounding you to stay?"

Norman frowned.
"Like what?" he asked. "I know well enough I'm not very brave." He'd been informed of as much, many times. "Unless I'm... I must starve and weaken myself just to stay myself. What sort of life is that? If you can't help me, Dr. Fell, just tell me. I don't like leading Sarah on a wild goose chase under false pretenses."

*Hannibal shrugged with a hint of indifference.*
"Well, Norman...that really depends on what sort of help you want from me."
*His brow lifted slightly.*
"Do you want to get better, or do you want to die?"

"I don't need your help to die," he said. This man wouldn't even know how to kill him, and anyway, the fee was pretty steep for a simple assassination. "I want to get better. But if I can't, if this is all there is... I want to know."

*Hannibal had his suspicions, but he wasn't about to jump to conclusions.*
"Well, it's early to say. I'll have to get a copy of your original case file or start a new one, whichever you prefer. You associate was not able to provide one, since she's not family. It will take some time to diagnosis."
*He didn't seem to blink as he continued.*
"But modern chemistry has provided many solutions for control. It's certainly possible that your condition may be manageable."

Norman's eyes widened, and he was struck silent for a moment. The flare of hope was too great to allow for speech.
"Oh," he breathed finally, his face open and boyish. Had his hands been free, he might have risen to shake Fell's hand. "Oh, Dr. Fell, that'd b-be... Of course, my chart. You don't know what this means to me."

*Hannibal gave a civil half-smile.*
"It's nice that you're pleased, but there is much left to sort through before I'll be able to give you a firm diagnosis."
*He made another quick note and sighed softly.*
"Was that all you wished to discuss this evening? It doesn't seem like much, but without your chart....things will be slower until I can get a copy."

He didn't understand, Norman thought. He treated people like him, but he couldn't understand what it was to be one. That the slender glimmer of hope shone like the sun to him.
"Well, if you think it best," he said. "You think... is it right, to stay tied up, and... and weakened, to keep him away? Until I see you again."

((Yeah, Hannibal couldn't possibly understand compulsive killing. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) )) *Hannibal frowned a little, for while an unorthodox approach (though not necessarily in this time period, he reminded himself) if it had been working, there should be little harm in it.* "Or I might recommend a sedative. Something to keep you suppressed." *There was a slight shrug.* "Whichever method you're more comfortable with should be fine. And I should have the file in the next day or two, if you'll sign the releases tonight."

Norman nodded. "I.. sleep very soundly during the day," he said. "And I'll sign whatever you need."

*Hannibal only nodded in answer, opening a file cabinet in his desk and fishing through a set of files before procuring the proper release forms. Turning them towards his patient, he quickly marked up the page with his pen.*
"Sign here. And here. Initial here. Here. And here." *He instructed, his motions controlled and minimal.*
