"I'm rather afraid not," Kristen replied coolly, "and I would much appreciate it if you did not talk badly of Dr. Preston. He's an old friend of the family.
"Now then, if you do not require my presence any longer, I will just be going. Have a good day, Dr. House." The young woman turned and began to leave the room.

*House's eyes natually traveled to her taut, nicely rounded rear as she left.* "Okay," *he said brightly, making her stop.* "You're definitely hired."

Kristen turned and smiled brightly, taking no notice of House's gaze, so happy was she that she had made the job.
"Thank you, Dr. House."

*House simply nodded then tilted his head to her highly fashionable, high-heeled pumps.* "I don't want any employees of mine wearing mini torture machines on their feet. The next time I see you, they better be sensible shoes," *he said seriously. Strippers he liked in platforms; his doctors, he like in reasonable footwear.*

"Of course... and thank you once more for allowing me to take this job."
The only sounds made as Kristen left the room were the echoing clicks of her shoes.

*House again stared at her swaying rear adoringly as she exited the room.*
Wow. *he thought to himself. A part of him hoped she didn't come with as much baggage as Cameron did... but another part of him hoped she did. Pretty women with baggage were just so fun to psycho analyse.*
*With a satisfied smirk of his face, he picked up his ball and cane and limped into the DDx office. He sat on the table, facing the whiteboard which was full of symptoms, set down his cane and passed the ball from one hand to another idly in though.*

About a half-hour later, Kristen entered the DDx room silently. Careful to make a good impression on House, she had changed from her high heels to little-worn tennis shoes. She noticed House staring intently at the whiteboard.
She tilted her head to the side. "Is there something there that I can't see?"

*House bounced his felt ball on the white board and caught it over and over again. It was a bit of a habit. He however stopped and watched her come in. He glanced at her feet contently as he saw that she had ditched her four-inch stilettos.*
"Bloody sputum, absense seizures, pain," *he said with a sigh." "Differential diagnosis. Go."

"Is the patient male or female?" Kristen asked.

*House turned and looked at her curiously.* "Does it matter? Do you think it's a testicular or a cervical problem?"

Kristen sighed in frustration and answered his previous question, listing a variety of possibilites that could be associated with the symptoms.
"Tuberculosis? Epilepsy? An STD?"

"PPD and EEG came back negative for the first two and the STD panel says she's clean," *he said plainly.*
"Anything enviornmental?"

"Not anything I can think of at the moment. Perhaps an allergen or chemical that could have possibly irritated the patient's lungs?" Kristen asked pulling anything out of the air.
"Although that wouldn't explain the seizures."

'Allergen or chemical' Yeah. VERY original. Although the blonde hair might explain everything incompetent that comes out of this one's mouth...
"Yeah..." *House said, dragging out the word, emphasizing his contempt for her cr*ppy diagnosis,* "Either that or it can be something--I don't know-- infectious," *he said, again, giving emphasis a few key words, hoping to degrade his new fellow. He hadn't yet hired a doctor that couldn't get past the first DDx but, he guessed, there was a first time for everything. And he was sure that seeing this hot doctor stamp out of him was a sight to behold.*

Kristen merely gave a small smile, ignoring his ill-meant words. A sudden memory of her infuriated father humiliating her flashed across her mind. She clenched her hand tightly, turning her knuckles white. The girl closed her eyes in an attempt to calm herself.
"Really, I can't be expected to know every single thing," Kristen unconsciously whispered aloud. "Not when you constantly ridicule my dreams and expectations!"
